    Were RTE pro Fine Gael?

I’m not a very political person at heart, but like anyone, I try and keep an eye on politics and form my own opinion.

Anyway, whoever you voted for, whatever your stance political stance…

Does you think RTE were very pro Fine Gael in the run up to, and aftermath of the Election?
Did Enda Kenny refuse the TV3 interview because he knew they wouldn’t be as sympathetic as RTE?
Why was Enda positioned in the centre of the leaders debate?

Am I just being paranoid or is anyone else thinking this way?

Enda got placed in the centre of the debate because he won the coin toss. In the 5 way debate the two smaller parties were put on the outer edges and the three main parties were given a chance to have the centre podium. No conspiracy there.

Honestly, I felt it was relatively balanced. Yes, more attention was given to FF, FG and Labour than the other parties but that was justifiable given their seat numbers before the election. Every other party but the big 3 was tiny in comparison. Next time around it'll be a lot more complicated with FF being so small and SF being twice as big. RTE may have to give SF equal airtime to FF, and from coverage of Opposition responses since the election SF do seem to be getting quite prominent coverage, so this may already be happening.

You're thinking of the Sindo and their risible call for FG single party government (after a decade supporting FF, of course), OP.
RTE Pravda played a straight bat in the elections, except when it came to Independents, the hard left or SF. But that's about as good as you could expect really.
I have to say, for once their count coverage was excellent. It's been anywhere from meh to shambolic in the past. Credit where it's due.

Yep, RTE is pro gov and they knew FG would be the dominant part of the new gov so they cosied up to them

FG Proposals for the broadcasting sector could cost RTE 40 million a year according to there manifesto.

the general tone of any RTE news broadcast which mentions the government, or any of the political programmes. That just my opinion though...

I can't honestly say I noticed bias towards or against any party in the election coverage. Though some broadcasters were perhaps more overt regarding their own allegiances than other. Pat Kennys interview with Biffo being one of note.

The fact that every group of political supporters accused RTÉ of bias against their party, speaks well of their impartiality.

It really doesn't. RTE could still be biased in favour of FG, FF or whoever. Just because their supporters claim otherwise, doesnt dispprove anything.

Coin toss? What a load of nonsense, no such thing, he was placed in the middle because FG were the highest in the polls

Oh Jesus. Yes, Enda being in the middle was a big conspiracy.

They were absolutely biased, but not because of stuff like the placement of Kenny at the debate.

They were biased because every single measure announced by FF or Labour was met with the analysis of "just look at the polls, all of this is pointless" by RTE's utterly terrible pundits. Even after their own debate, their talking heads broke it down with statements amounting to "who cares about debates, Enda's gonna win anyway" while TV3, whom they didn't support in their efforts to have multiple debates across the media, actively analysed the policies of every speaker on their own station.

No interrogation of policy and startling adherence to the polling bandwagon always favours the frontrunner and RTE are guilty of both ten times over.

RTE, like the BBC, is pro-whoever is going to keep their funding stream flowing freely, of course. In that sense, it's politically agnostic - but don't get between them and their funding ...
