Due to the recent arrival of my lovely daugher, I've been thinking about getting two watches to celebrate (and possibly one for my wife toi).
Firstly I'm hoping to find a Seiko 6309 for my birth month.
I'd also like to get something from February this year, so something from a small company would be best.
I'm quite fond on the SAS, Praestro styles.
Both have sand price ranges too.

Any suggestions on something I may not have considered. A dress watch perhaps?

It would be impossible to get a Stowa made in February at this stage(new anyway) there is a 6-8 week waiting list. Steinhart maybe, they have a few new watches coming out soon, I guess some of them may have been made last month. I dont know about Sinn, if you're going to do this kind of thing again your much better off with a couple of months notice.

Congrats on the new arrival. :)

Me I'd be going for a smaller watch house where you may be able to deal directly with someone who could organise it for you. SAS like you said. Sinn and the other of buck65's "S" :) are pretty big companies. On the Sinn military/Flieger type maybe a less well known company like GUINAND?

With the dress watch I'd be going for something simple. Patek Phillippe nailed it with their calatrava design all those years ago and it's rarely been beaten as a simple but elegant design http://www.minutemachines.com/watches/PatekPhilippe/Patek5096/Patek5096_02.jpg The question is from what maker and can you get the right date?

buck65's suggestion of Stowa is an idea alright.

Have to say I really like their stuff. In fairness I tend to prefer German to Swiss design in general, but still... nice stuff. And so reasonable.

As far as the date goes I'd directly contact a few of the companies suggested by people here. Tell them why you want a particular date. You may find them pretty helpful, especially if you email someone with kids themselves. :)

The birthday watch is a great idea. When I was looking for a chrono recently I was caught between two vintage handwound ones and what swung it was one was "born" the same year I was. Had to have it. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
