    Hey all,

I recently took the plunge and bought an Iphone4. I've never had a decent phone so I'm completely new to all of this technology. I just have a few questions and they're probably stupid but anywho....

What is the best way to transfer music/videos etc from my ipod to the iphone? It won't let me simply drag from one to the other in Itunes. Is that ipod to iphone program you can download the best way?

Is there any good programs to download that can convert films/videos that have been downloaded from the internet to a format so that they can go on the iphone?

I bought the phone on bill pay on T mobile because I am currently working in the UK. Is there any way I can get it unlocked so i could still use it on T mobile when I'm in the UK and then on my pay as you go vodafone(my old 087 number) when I go home for a weekend. I take it I would have to buy a new micro sim as well. Do vodafone sell these on pay as you go? What is the best way, tried and tested, to get it unlocked?

This is probably the stupidest question...there's hardly a way or an app I could download so that when using my phone on T mobile I could be notified or even see when I receive txts on my vodafone sim if it's unlocked so I could reply on the web.

Any other advice on getting it setup and started would be much appreciated no matter how basic.

    Cheers

Select "Manually manage music library" and you can drap and drop.

    What OS are you using?

The update coming this friday has already been cracked, so unlocking will be easier from then on.

No idea if such an app exists.

My is is 4.2.1. I have set my iTunes settings to that but it still won't let me drag and drop. I read somewhere the apple don't allow you to transfer between devices die to copyright so you have to download a program. Is that the same for films?
So what you're saying is that it's possible to unlock the phone and use two different sims in it. One bill pay and the other pay as you go? Both from different networks and different countries. Someone mentioned something about not being able to update the phone from iTunes when its unlocked. Is that permanent or is it just when the new "illegal" sim is in the phone?

    Cheers

Is the music on the iPod not in iTunes? If
Not you can take a copy of the music off the iPod by using software
Called sharepod, it's free so just google it, then import that music into iTunes
    And sync your iPhone.

Regarding playing movies and vids without converting i use vlc player tho i dont think its available anymore on the appstore, there is an app in the appstore called movie player which will play most formats.

As far as I know, you cannot drag an drop into itunes

You must manually import them to the Library

I thought this too, but you can actually drag and drop folders and songs straight into iTunes and it imports them that way.

Sync your Ipod in Itunes then connect Iphone and tick boxes on what you want to include in your Iphone.

Prob no, as your iphone is locked to provider

I've used a program called "3GP converter" for converting video files for the iPhone 3GS; it might be worth a go.

I downloaded sharpod and it worked perfectly....cheers. I think it was just because some of the songs on my Ipod I didn't have backed up on my computer.
I downloaded a converter called videotoiphone but it was taking ages to convert. It would have been 3 hours at least. Is this the norm for a normal sized film or are the other converters mentioned below faster? Or would it be worth it just to buy a video player app?
Has anybody tried to use a song from the ipod on the phone as a ringtone? I tried the method posted on the net about copying it and making it into a 30s max song but then it wouldn't let me convert it to a ringtone or drag it on to my desktop. Anybody had any problems with this?

3 hours seems very long - what format were you converting from? I converted a 20 minute TV episode (DivX) to iPad format in about 6 mins last night. Ripping from DVD can take a while though.

I was converting a .avi file. It was around 600MB I think. What program were you using to convert? Do you think it's worth it just to download an app for handiness sake rather than having to convert them all the time?

I use 3GP converter for my iPhone as it optimises the file for the specific screen size (so it doesn't take up more space than necessary). I only got my iPad yesterday and can't remember the name of the program I downloaded.

Do you mean download an app that can play AVI files natively? That could well be an option - I've not had mine long enough to make a decision one way or the other.

The 3GBP converter program allows batch conversions of files (and I don't think it takes 3 hours for a 600mb file). So I just set it to convert a good few files overnight, and synch them in the morning.
