(Lucht electric heaters - it won't let me edit the heading:/)

    Hi all,

My friend is considering breaking out on his own and selling these lucht heaters, which are "highly efficient" electric heaters, imported through an agent in the UK.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of them. I've done my own research and decided not to go in with him, but I'm just wondering if they are well known and if they have any kind of reputation.

    thanks

heard of them and use them in a showroom & office - they are utterly brilliant. Give great heat and use about 65% less electricity than a normal rad.
Price is circa €500 + vat for a decent size.

got mine from smart electrics in parkwest, they also have a seller in Athlone but that seem about it.

Defo an opportunity out there as neither stockist seems to be agressive in selling them and reaction from visitors to my place has given the guys in parkwest at least half a dozen extra sales. http://www.smartelectrics.ie/lucht-radiators

But why import from the UK? - It just adds extra shipping & an extra layer of cost. - Go directly to Lucht in Germany and get supplied direct.

I'm very surprised about that because I had only heard bad things about those types of heaters, as though they were a scam and they drive up people's electricity bills, etc...

    Thanks for the response :)

They're german. Germans don;t do bad products:D. I looked at them very closely before buying.

Options were - €3500 for installing gas heating, €2500 for installing regular storage heating or €1500 to nuy these and have them installed in minutes (early jan, -15 and using 12,000 kwh in regular heaters) - choice was made very quickly.

Didn't believe everything, so was very surprised by the size of drop in bill AND the comfort of heat they gave out.

Again - why your mate wants to buy of a UK company who has to add a margin and has to charge shiiping from Germany to UK and the UK to Ireland is beyond good reason. Conatct them directly, single shippng charge and probably lower base cost. - Or to test the market, become a sales agent for one of the 2 current sellers? (zero risk and probably 10% - 15% commission)

Thats the kind of statement the scammers in Britain were saying over other similar products. I can't find anything on google about the actual manufacturer. If they are so great, why are they not selling them through Power City? Why do they need door-to-door sales teams in Britain and Ireland? Obviously there are some shoddy German manufacturers, the reputation of a nationality is NOT a guarantee of quality, AT ALL.

I find these things extremely dubious, since there so many similar products using exactly the same sales pitch (energy efficient - even though all electric heaters are 100% efficient) as these Lucht heaters and that you are saying now ("Its German Manufactured! The Germans have been using them for years, why have we only just heard of them!?!")

Can you tell me what your ESB bill was before and after installation and what heating system you were using before?

My mate has a supplier from the UK, I don't really care what he does in that regard, I just don't want him to get mixed up in something that damages his reputation or costs him his investment.

    Thanks for the response anyway

sorry - the german statement was tongue in cheek.

a very quick google gave me this http://www.lucht-lhz.info/

I don't know how they sell - I just saw it online, thought it would do the job, got them and am happy. I can pm my showroom address (kildare) and you can see them in action in a noraml envirnoment.

Power city would be the place for these, (they're €500+) but the likes of Heatcentre and other specialist plumbing / heating places would be where I'd see the market.

and polease don;t say I have an interest - I was already accused today of working for petmania just becasue I made a positive comment and llast week I was accused of being a petrol retail because I know the breakdown of the petrol price:eek: - I'm in a specialist area and have no need to promote what I do. - Also I like to use boards as a wall to hit my head against:D:D and comment where I wouldn;t if people knew me:p

I currently have storage heaters which I find completely useless in a mid terrace house. Im desperate to get rid of them and have been told upgrading them (cos they are at least 15yrs old) would show no great improvement. I cant get gas as its not on my road. I heard about these new lucht heaters and went out to the company in clondalkin to view them. They look good but I wonder do they really heat up the place and if so at what cost. Its only costing 2000euros to get 5 heaters into the house which seems a decent price but Im wondering will my heating bills go through the roof??? Also i cant find anyone who actually has them in houses. Im wondering if they are so good why have people not replaced their storage heaters in houses or apartments with these????

Sorry to dig up a year old thread but I am considering replacing 3 or 4 radiators in a 2 bed apartment that are 12+ old. The radiators in the bedrooms are convection only, the sitting room & hall are convection & storage but i never use either in storage mode.

Has anyone actually bought these for domestic use? And anything you can fill me in in about them?

I use one in a back room in a fairly large house. The room never had heating installed, so this was best option. Room is about 12ft x 15ft and is used as study/office and the heater is on a timer.

Room is warm within 30 minutes and as the heater is temperature controlled, it stays constant. Power useage is very low as we checked it over a 4 hour period with just one 7w light and a fridge running at same time. (we hadn't been totally convinced by the brochure) The 1.5kw heater used about 2 units of power in that 4 hour period - a 2kw oil heater would use about 6 units in same period.

Initial cost is high, but running cost seems to be very low.

    Hi thanks for your reply!
Does the radiator retain the heat for long after it is switched off?
With your 1.5kw heater in use, is that with the radiator on full blast or would that be at a medium setting?
Based on my calculations of my room sizes Im pretty sure the biggest radiator I'll need is a 1.5kw.
I agree the inital cost seems to be high but I think replacing my 12-14 year old current heaters with new low running cost economical heaters would be a good idea.
These would be good for securing an overall good BER rating?
I am thinking of possible rental opportunities for my apartment in the future.

Theres hardly a grant available for installing new low energy radiators, is there?

I have it on a timer (can be set differently for each day) and a set temp of 19.5c. Stays hot for about 20min and gradually cools down to cold over and hour or so.

    Haven't a clue about BER.

I also haggled on price and got about 18% off their list price.
