After my fellow boarsies recommended a great place in Tenerife, we were thinking of going to Lanzarote in April.

Can anyone recommend a nice area close to the beach, but close to a main town where we can do a bit of shopping etc? We're 33 and 28 and not big drinkers.

    Any recommendations are welcome!

Matagorda isn't bad. It's on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen and adjacent to the airport so you can look at the aircraft on final approach (which for some is a drawback???).

It's pretty convenient for Arricefe too, which is the capitol. There's a fairly decent shopping area there. A bus from Matagorda will get you to Arricefe in 15 minutes in one direction and to Puerto Del Carmen in five going the other way. Taxis are cheap enough too.

+1 on Matagorda. It's quieter than Puerto del Carmen but right on the beach and still only a 5 min taxi to P del C if you want a bit more life. I'd definately recommend heading into Puerto del Carmen (particuarly down to the old harbour) for some fantastic restaurants but Matagorda suited us perfectly for chilling during the day and avoiding the noisey revellers at night! I sound like an old fogey but we're actually in our late 20's :o

We stayed in Costa Teguise for two weeks during January and February and we liked it. It is quieter than Puerto del Carmen and less commercialised. There are frequent buses from Costa Teguise to Arrecife, the capital and to Puerto del Carmen.

I´m posting from the La Morana Apartments in Lanzarote waiting to check out. Lovely small complex, very clean, 50 metres from the beach up a STEEP hill. In the centre of things but quiet at night. Highly recommend it. Went with Falcon

Not sure what kind place to stay that you are looking for but have stayes in the Los Jameous Playa Hotel just outside Matagorda. (Two minute walk).

The hotel was quite nice with a good bus service into Puerto Del Carmen. At the back of the hotel is a gate and the beach is just across the road.

Just to follow on from my post about the La Morana Apartments. While in Lanzarote, I read the local magazine which went on about the benefits of Ryanair now flying in to the island.

Anyway, on Falcon's website, a week for two staying at the Morana for the 1st week in May would cost €1,050. Booking the apartment directly was €325, return flights with Ryanair were €360 and return taxi fare would be approx €35. Total €720
