I'm seeing this car being praised for its looks on many forums, but I think it's bloody hideous, particularly from the front:

I like many of the designs MB are coming out with these days, but I just can't get on with this.

It's looks pretty aggressive but it's not pretty. I don't like the side profile.
Don't know if I like it or not:confused:

Let it rest for this thread, Matt.

It's not bad from a side profile - Very agressive, but I think the front is just like an SL which has been hit with a Hammer, or a wall!

Lol, Im not ragging on Volvo!
I genuinely was pointing out the similarity of the grille design. Ill put a positive spin on it for you; if Merc think this is a nice design and as you say you see other people loving on it, it adds credence to Volvo's design teams ideas!

What about this Merc dont you like then, I assume its not the grille but maybe the cluttered looking front?

It's not that, more the fact that I can't have a critical discussion about a car on here without something about Volvo being used against me.

The reason you probably see similarities is that Steve Mattin (designer of much of the Merc range seen up until recently) has been responsible for the latest Volvo designs such as the S60 and XC60. His design language has probably influenced this new SLK to some extent.

Yeah, pretty much. I agree that the car doesn't look bad in side profile, but the front is ghastly.

Way too busy looking IMO, the original was crisper & cleaner.

That tends to happen to people named after products! They always look like you have an angle, warranted or not. If I went and posted in the XBox forum with the name PS3Guy about "stuff", what sort of response would I get?
PS: As I said I was going to say that anyhow, not prompted by you. I just had to rein it in a little to be nice. :p

Interesting it would seem the number of trend setting designers in the industry is quite few; this guy, Bangle, de'Silva, Peter Schreyer.
