RTE's attempt to help their political friends to re brand themselves as caring politicians who are there to help us.

I must admit I am enjoying but I think I am very sceptical of RTE's motives especially the editorial direction of the piece. But maybe it genuine just can't trust them.

You can't trust RTE. All that excuse for a media is is an outlet for whomever is in power. Right now, they're probably holding meetings to decide the best way to lick the s**t off Enda's shoes. Obsequious? Just a tad...

If ever I had the power to do so, RTE would be high on my list of things to get rid of.

    I enjoyed the program,
Though i think gogarty thinks he is coming across more tough & more down to earth :-)with all his crude language on Public airways.

I think the paranoia about RTE is just starting to get embarrassing at this stage. I quite enjoyed it and I recommend the radio documentary "Dogfight: Conor and charlie" to anyone who also enjoyed it. The radio doc shows the incoherent abuse Conor Lenihan faced during his campaign.

The public really do make a show of themselves.

I'd be a little worried about the mental state of some of the posters here.

People in RTE and people in Politics are just that. People.

They lead mundane and ordinary enough lives just like the rest of us.

I wouldn't think anything thats broadcast by RTE is part of some grand conspiracy to keep the people down.

It exasperating reading some of the posts on here sometimes :pac:

Enjoyed the programme myself great insight into what goes on behind the scenes.

Ps, Paul Gogarty came across as a whiney, petty and moany little gob****e!

I thought it was an excellent documentary as well. It served its purpose well too to show you the human side of the life of campaigning. But I didnt have much sympathy for Gogerty tbh. That said, I think he was right when saying hes not pessimistic, just realistic.
I had no sympathy for Hillery either but in fairness he didnt come across like he was looking for any sympathy.

It would have been a nice touch if they had spent some more time interviewing the people that were angry or giving abuse , I know it wasnt the point of the documentary but it would have highlighted nicely why the likes of Gogerty was a complete failure, and why Ming was so successful.

Thought it was a great docco too :)

Listening to that one about Lenihan and O'Connor now. Heard it's very good, that they don't get along!

did you see the way gogarty spoke to his people who were canvassing with him??

that will give you just an inkling of the calibre of person he is

slim shady said you get one shot

the greens got theirs and blew it

What about doing the filming of the opposite side to the TD's, the people who they canvassed. Would have been a great part two.

The working and middle class living in poverty are angry and the cowards did not even stand for election to avoid having the truth told to them.

Paul Gogarty realy comes off a whiner.
I can understand some of the frustration, his canvassing was badly organized but when you manage a team, it's his own fault.

Doubt anyone would volunteer for him again, not a man to lead and manage a team but wants to lead the country?

I enjoyed the podcast more then the TV program.
These two FF candidates seem to have spent more time competing with each other then the other candidates
Fierce rivalry, electioneering at its best!

not a bad idea but I dont think a whole documentary would be needed cause it the doc really wasnt about that, it was just an inside look at the campaign trail.
Not to mention, its not like people that have been affected by the recession havent been covered, Frontline and other similar shows have been allowing people tell their stories for the past year or 2.

I thought he was pretty poor alright there. I know he was under pressure to basically save his job, but moaning about party members not bothering to be active and then treating the few who where with him like children came across very bad. At the end of the day it was just hitting the wrong houses on a particular street. Not something you need a director of elections to sort out, any 15 year old kid who ever dropped leaflets in an estate would have it sussed pretty quick. A 5 minute chat before entering the area should have been enough to sort out the logistics. I have a feeling they just turned up and start knocking on doors, each expecting someone else to have organised Gogartys shadowing of the team.

I agree with Permabear though, I thought it was a great programme.
