A quick note to tell you that Eireman X the off-road triathlon & NEW Duathlon is now open with an early bird offer.

The event is having a major overhaul this year based on the feedback survey from September. There are a good few changes in 2011:

    - New Duathlon (non swimmers can now enjoy the Craic)
    - No need to pay the extra €15 one day licence for Triathlon Ireland if you are not a member. We are insured separately.
    - A DJ will be insitu to get the mood going. Lots of inspiration when you pass transition 4 time
    - Its on a Saturday 01st Oct. It's the last race of the season so we might celebrate....
    - We may also throw in a few surprises on the run to make you 'eat some dirt'.
    - We have an early bird until the end of March for €40 then goes to €45
    - There is a video on the website so you can show your mates that its very dooable. No fear!

Note: There is still an entry limit of 200 which will be split: 100 for Tri and 100 for Duathlon.

    FYI

We have kept the entry fee at €40 and the Duathlon is €35.

There has been a bit of interest from first timers as the distance is short and no additional licence required. Reckon people are more inclined to have a mountain bike in the shed rather than a road bike... (maybe)

The guys in the 19th Pub in Courtown are hosting prize giving and will lay on some finger food afterwards. Nice extra to have - thanks to them.

The Event video gives a good flavour or what's in store for you. It's a one of kind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2Zm74Q8zRk

Drenched, muddy but Epic is the only way to describe Ireland’s only off-road mountain bike Triathlon and Duathlon that took place in the lush forests of Courtown Harbour, Co. Wexford. One hundred competitors of all levels of fitness took on this challenge in the toughest of conditions. Monsoon rains pelted down on spectators and race marshals but it didn’t dampen the superb atmosphere that has become a hallmark of this intimate race.

The race began with a choice of a 750m sea swim in calm conditions or a 2km trail run. From there it was a 10km cycle through some of Ireland’s oldest forests under the authority of Coillte, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Forest Park. This was followed by a 5km cross country run that involves crossing several rivers. ‘With the volume of rain the rivers rose at least 1 ft which added to the experience. The tougher it was the more people enjoyed it. We were all in it together - spectators, marshals and competitors and we all buzzed off each other’ says race organiser Eoin Ryan.

The winner was Adam Kelly from Wicklow took the mens title. The women’s race was won by a Dutch woman Kim Van Wijck. This is the fourth time the race has taken place in Courtown Harbour. It is a big community event that attracts people from the four corners of Ireland. ‘This year we had a couple who came over from Holland to do the race’ says Ryan. The race is also the smallest Triathlon in Ireland and according to Ryan it needs more participants to guarantee its future. This year he introduced the Duathlon (run, bike, run) for those who don’t like to swim in order to try and attract more participants and also reduced the entry fee.

The participants had high praise for the event as they filtered out of Transition to a warm shower in Forest Park Leisure centre. They took with them a highly rewarding feeling that not only did they finish the course but they also beat the elements in a unique race that will perhaps live longer in their memories than one of the standard races. Eireman X is a magnificent way to enjoy the great outdoors and natural landscape that we sometimes take for granted. To see a short video of the event go to website www.eireman.org
