Do insurance companies pay out if there is no tax on a car??

    My friends car got robbed today but has no tax on it, it has nct, and insurance but the tax is out!!

    Will the insurance comapny pay out??

    I am pretty sure they don't.

    If you are driving without tax, you are driving illegally.

    I was under the impression that your policy will only cover you if your car is legally on the road.

    Ye he was driving his tax was out since b4 xmas i think its nct'd and insured, car still aint been recovered but if he dnt get it bk and dont get paid he'l be ****ed!!

    Hahahahaha no he wasnt driving, he was driving with no tax up until the car was stoloen dats wat i meant!!

    You are covered when driving illegally

    (breaking speed limit, driving in bus lane, driving drunk, driving unaccompanied as an L driver etc)

    I'd be inclined to believe this, it would fit with why having insurance is supposed to be a requirement of getting renewing motor tax, whereas if tax was also a requirement of insurance, then it would be all too easy to get landed in a situation where neither could be gotten!
