It's junk, the whole car would need an overhaul to get it road worthy, engine, brake lines and seals and likes would have to be done.
You'd be better off spending a grand on a 1.25 fiesta.

Unless you're a real Fiesta enthusiast, stay away. Far more trouble than it's worth.

Dont mind that lot. If the bodys solid get it back on the road they are a great car. Id be amazed of you needed to replace the engine though, whats wrong with the one thats in it?

Ah, but you're into restoration I take it? If he wants a day to day car a Mk2 Fiesta is an awful choice. He's only thinking about it because it's free, not because it's a psuedo classic rust bucket with an engine that sounds like someone dropping bolts onto the roof from a height. With enough fettling... it'd still be crap.

Bit harsh. I've two of these little things and there so simple and cheap to keep on the road it's crazy.
One of them was in a shed for ten years ... started up with about ten minutes work and the brakes not only still worked perfectly all the brake lines were still good.

OP don't bother trying to put the mk3 engine into the mk2 ... best to just source the right engine for the car. Or fix the one that's in it.

they tried to drive it a few years ago and the clutch was gone so they go thick and pulled bits of the engine and bits of it is rusted. I have been offered a free 1.6 escort engine and box with it but i would like to get a 1.1 engine for it. Any one know if a mk3 engine will fit or where i could get a mk2 engine

It'll take a bit of work, but a lot of the ford engines are easliy switched

around, have put 1.6 engines into 1.3 escorts.

If you can when you find a suitable engine, the throttle body and air breather might need a bit of "Mac Gyvering". Have fun and Good luck.

If you are put off by the lads, i'll gladly take the car and 1.6 engine off your hands and put back together. i like the older fords myself and think it'd turn more heads than an 11-d

if i get a mk3 1.1 engine from the scrap yard that had a 5 speed box on it. do i need to put in a 5 speed box or can i let the 4 speed box in it.

I don't think the engine from a Mk3 Fiesta will work in a Mk2. The mk3 has a coilpack with two coils in it (connected to each of two cylinders), but no distributor. The Mk2 has a single coil and a distributor to send the spark round to the relevant cylinder. You cannot fit a distributor to the engine 'cos there won't be a hole in the block to mount it, or a gear on the camshaft to drive it.

The 5-speed box from a mk3 "might" fit it.

The 1.1 engine from a mk3 escort, or the 1.1 engine from a mk1 fiesta should fit but I can't be certain.

What your thinking of doin will work. Have put a 4 speed box onto an escort engine that had a 5 speed, but your better having a 5 speed box.

It's a strange feeling when your driving and you try and go in to 5th and it ain't there.

Still good luck with the project and make yourself a retro classic.

I say go for it! It's nice to see someone using a classic rather than the mundane modern shíte that's everywhere.

As for parts, I know a lad who may be able to help. I'll send you a PM.
