Hi. Looking into braces at the moment and researching this method. Is it really as effective as proper braces?? What are they like cost wise?? What's the usual time you ahve to wear them? Any info greatly appreciated

I personally don't hold with invisalign, I was goin to get them but then decided against it and went with traditional tracks, ceramic on top and metal on bottom, currently have a jaw extender and bonding on back molars also to help teeth move faster.
I have a friend who had invisalign so have personally seen the before and after with invisalign treatment.

    PROS
They are invisable as opposed to tradional braces
You can take them out when eating or for occasions when you do not want to wear them

    CONS
They still apply quite alot of pressure to the mouth so not as sore as train tracks but still painful

Because you wear them for 2weeks I think at at time they can yellow and smell

They do not deliver the same results as train tracks and are only really suitable for very minor problems

They are generally more expensive than train tracks

My friends teeth were straighter after the invisalign treatment but they were not perfect and he had to have them for 6 months longer than he was originally told. Said he wished he had just had tracks for a yr instead of invisalign for 2yrs.

Hope you find this useful ;)

I had looked into this before as i have one tooth that sticks out quite a bit.
I went up North as it's around 3k here! Anyway he told me invisalign is only for minor correction - it does not give better results then the metal brace and it works out more expensive! As far as i know the invisalign is worn for six months.

I'm going for the metal brace i will have to wear for two years (not looking forward to that) but the result will be better for my problem.

    hi there

Invisalign is not as effective as fixed braces or traintracks at straightening teeth
    It takes longer
    It costs more, 1-2K extra

I would go for the traintrack braces unless very minor

    i'd give them a miss.
I work in an ortho practice and the feedback we get from patients about invsalign type braces is not great.

you'll get a better result from regular braces.

Hey I don't know if you have decided to go for invisalign or not as you posted a while ago now. I had invisalign for 9 months and it was the best money I ever spent. I got them on in Sept 08 and of in June 09. When I first got them on it felt like huge pressure but it was bearable after 24 hours and I didn't find them uncomfortable at all after that. You change them every 2 weeks and the new ones will be tight but I just put mine in at night and the pressure was fine by the morning.
When I got them they were 5k but I got 1600 back in tax I'd say they are cheaper now as that was before the doom and gloom.
If you live near the border I would advise pricing them in the north as well as I know a few people who did that and they saved a fair bit.
My advise to anyone who is paranoid about their teeth and who has the cash to spare would be to go for it nice teeth make such a difference to your confidence.
    Hope this helps:D
