Possible dissertation topic

Hey guys,

I did and MBA about 5 years ago, but never actually finished it. I did the exams, but never finished the thesis. It isn't really something that I am too bothered about, as in, if I never finished it, it wouldn't be a source of regret or anything. I am however planning on moving to S.Korea to teach english, and I have heard that university teaching positions are supposed to be among the best to get. I have however, heard that in order to get one, you would require a masters of some sort. For this reason, I would consider finishing the thesis.

The issue for me is, I don't want to write a thesis just for the sake of it, I would like to write it on a topic that I am intersted in. A purely philosophical thesis would suit me down to the ground, but I presume that it will have to have a business slant to it - given that it was an MBA.

I have a few ideas myself about the benefits of meditation, and how they would be applicable in a business environment, but I haven't come across too many articles - scientific or otherwise - that tacle this subject. I have come across some, so I know there are some out there.


I was just wondering if anyone has any infor or guidance they could offer, in this respect? Has anyone written a similar thesis, or know anyone who has? Has anyone read any articles along those lines? Anyone know any good resources or anything?

Daily meditation over a consistent period of time changes gray matter density in parts of the brain associated with memory, sense of self, empathy, and stress. Researchers examined MRI scans of participants over a period of 8 weeks. Daily meditation sessions of 30-minutes’ duration produced measurable changes in subjects with no previous meditation history. Increased gray matter was discovered in the hippocampus, the learning and memory region of the brain. The anxiety and stress region of the brain, the amygdala, produced less gray matter. In a non-meditating control group, these positive changes did not take place.

Study findings from lead researcher, Britta Hölzel, PhD, of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and her colleagues appear in the January 30 issue of Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Dr. Hölzel said. “The field is very, very young, and we don’t really know enough about it yet…I would say these are still quite preliminary findings. We see that there is something there, but we have to replicate these findings and find out what they really mean.”
