Hi I was thinking of ways to make some extra cash as a student and thought it could be a good idea to try and sell on ebay.
Anyway ive decided if I do, I should sell eletronics as they seem to have a pretty good mark up.
Ive found this site which is a china based wholesale company, and am just wondering if I will have to pay tax if I do buy from them.??
Do yee reckon I could make it viable?

    Cheers..

Hello there, as mentioned on hundreds of posts here, China wholesalers can be scam artists, you really have to have a trusted source...................... If you do then:
    1. You will have to pay customs tax on any imports from outside the EU, you will find details on www.revenue.ie
    2. You should look up the charges and fees that you will have to pay with ebay and paypal.
    3. What makes you think that you will sell alot of these, have you previously good feedback score?
    4. You will prob have to register yourself as a business with the CRO and also as a business seller on ebay(can be higher fees)
    5. What will be your returns policy?
I have recently set up an ebay shop but not going as well as hoped so I know exactly where you are coming from.

    http://www.chinavasion.com/

This is the website ive found. Ive heard its legit.
I havent yet decided what specifily to sell, but I do no electronics do generally sell well on ebay.
Looking at the prices of the goods on the site it looks like i could make money, but on the other hand will it be enough of a profit when i take fees, taxes etc into consideration..
Is there any way of getting the supplier to send the items individully to each customer as a gift thus avoiding the taxes??..

Well if you know people who have got goods off them without any hassle then it sounds ok, make sure they accept PayPal.

They can probably do dropshipping for you whereby you order from them and they deliver it to the buyers door but again you are not being 100% legit with the taxman and maybe even the customer might get caught with customs which will lead to them giving you negative feedback ie. bad for business.

The best thing you could do would be to look into it all and draw up a profitability plan, seeing how much you could make when selling a product.........

Good luck with it, if you need any help let me know.

google "chinavision problems" and read up about them. Yes they are a legitimate company, but the general feeling is it cheap shoddy goods and no bargain. Customer service seems to be dreadful and you are responsible for all duties & vat at point of entry.

Before jumping in direct importation for a no too great a source and where you will be responsible if products break, check out some whoesalers - AIM in Robinhood Industrial Estate is one that has a large range of electronics.

Just remembered they changed the name of the cash & carry to Trade Cash & Carry. - Not much on the site, but it is a cash and carry rather than a catalogue based place and products change on regular basis.

There are other places in the area including Sean Fagan (more for gaming & dvds) http://www.faganswholesale.com/

Cheers for the links and advice lads.

I looked more into the china and american wholesalers and the biggest problem with most of them are the shipping costs..
I found a good wholesaler which sells nike runners. The cost of the runners are only a fraction of the cost in the sports shops and the shipping is free as long as you purchase more than 11 at a time.
Sounds good but the only thing is ill prob have to pay a pretty big tax bill when i recieve the goods.

And if there's a fault, the customer will want you to replace it, you will be left with sizes that don't sell and you'll be competing with the sales promotions of the large chains. Some items may be fakes, some items may have quotas, some have 20% duty, some 4%.

Importing from China is very attractive at first sight, but there's a hell of lot more to it than meets the eye. There are so many scams out there that Chinese people in Ireland are very wary about importing direct.

One of my businesses imports direct from China, but its taken about 6 years to find the right supply chain in terms of quality and there have been costly mistakes on the way. Its not for the faint hearted and there's bound to be an easier way to make a few bob with far less risk. - Check out over stock clearance houses in the UK, sometimes you can find a few gems in them.

One thing to be aware of.. if you happen to purchase any *branded* goods from china, there's a 99.9% chance it's a fake. So if customs get their hands on it, you'll never see it ;) If you are buying branded goods, make sure they supply you with all the documentation from the actual brand so if customs pull you up, you have supporting documentation.

Electronics from China can be fairly dodgy, I got a box of iPod chargers there a few months ago, when it came to testing them I nearly blew up the house. Smoke everywhere.

I personally can vouch for ChinaVasion, but their shipping rates are high. You'd be best saving into the high hundreds and buy a rake load of stuff. Based on my last order, I spent around €405 on products and just under €100 on shipping with DHL, so with the quantity the total product cost will come down.

http://www.thewholesaleforums.co.uk might be a good place for you to start off from, it's uk based sellers mainly so you'll get cheaper shipping and last time I checked, there in the EU, and correct me if I'm wrong, but customs normally don't charge anything on UK imports?

    Yeah cheers for the link...
I think i will try and avoid china. it seems like a lot of their goods are fake or replicas which might cause problems when i go to sell.
The shipping and tax/customs issues are also a complete turn off..
The UK is looking like a better option atm...

Hi all tried Chinavision bought a Aspier dual sim phone from them 43 euro with 12 euro shipping but you have to pay tax when it arrives by DHL 9 euro so about the phone basic looks nice can make calls and send and receive texts but it is not set up for picture texts or Internet as you need to input the WAP settings manually so here is your problem the instruction booklet you get in very basic and to be blunt usless I have mailes them oner two weeks now trying to ask them how do i input the WAP settings for O2, so far no luck with their response if you are buying a phone from them be awear you will have problems setting up the WAP/GPRS settings on any phone you buy from then I should have kept my money and saved a bit more and bought one from a shop here .

so be warned if any of you have a same problem and have fixed it let me know as still trying to get pic/messaging working

ebay also ban anyone who sells inferior electronics from the likes of chinavasion.com

if you put an ad up they actually email you and ask for a photo of you holding the product and some id

its terrible but its saves ebay being flooded with crap. even more than it is.

the people from these sites are already selling on ebay so what makes you think you can beat them anyway?

Why take a risk in investing your money on electronic items? They are generally aimed at a specific age bracket. These people and many others have homes and rather than moving are doing up their homes and gardens. I was in Woodies the other day and never seen so much flowers, trees and other gardening stuff leaving the store. If i had the money I'd find a supplier of trees and shrubs and possibly other gardening stuff for people who grow their own fruit and veg.
