Any one with queries on the grant and changes to it will need to contact the Minister for Education and Skills . The new minister will be announced soon

The qualifying distance between home and college for the non-adjacent rate of grant was increased from 24km to 45km

That change in particular is ridiculous.

I actually wrote to ruairi quinn questioning if the required distance change was going to be reviewed and all i got was a copy and paste job from what fianna fail said about improved infrastructure etc, absolute joke! the road i travel to college is now 10 times worse then it was a few years ago! The funny thing is i dont think most students have noticed this change to the grant and could be in for major disapointment when they realise come august/ september! Its especially harsh on those who are midway through their studies

well if your halfway through your college degree getting €3000 or so living further than 26km but less then 45km from the college, for the remaining years of your degree you will only receive €1250 a year, now i dont know about you but to most students thats one hell of a cut in funding!!

They were available around mid to end of may last year

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
