I am new to selling a car as I usually trade in but this time I am looking to sell privately to reap the benefits of a cash deal with a dealer. If any of you have a minute to spare would you mind looking the ad over and advising me on any improvements that may help.

Ad looks just fine to me, price looks a little on the high side but if you knock 500 off you should get it sold.

Out of 7 search terms you've entered for your ad only 1 of them relates your car. You've managed to put in 6 cars that aren't yours. Show a little pride in your car and sell it for what it is.

Buy and sell are doin free ads again I think on the website www.buyandsell.ie, photos n all but I think Done Deal is your best bet. If you have it priced right, thats the place Id imagine it will sell

Theres autotrader but I think them and carzone are together now?

TDi relates to my car
passats and superbs are basically the same thing.
TBH I was just trying to get the large diesel saloon market as a lot o them wouldn't think of a superb.

To me the best selling points on that car are the new service and the brand new NCT. Put Brand New NCT & Service in the title and move them up to the top of the description list as well. If I was in the market for something like that its what would grab my attention first. Put the 50mpg thing right below that, then the new tyres.

Think of the possible buyers, they are probably looking for a sensible, economical, family car with low future maintenance. This is a bigger selling point to them than elec windows etc.

If you are putting Passat in the searcch engine then put in Octavia as well. It might make someone think a bit bigger.

The problem with this is it's not honest to force your ad on people who are looking for a different car. Add in your quoting the mileage in miles on a km/h car and the general impression is of an untrustworthy seller. The other thing that jumps out at me is that there's no mention of a service history.

While I'd normally agree with crucifying people with the annoying tags at the bottom, the OP is only putting in cars that are similar to his/her own and there's only a handful, so I wouldn't have a major problem with the tagging.

I'm really not sure how someone can come to that conclusion?
I'd maybe quote in both methods for those of us who still think in miles but I definitely wouldn't guage someones 'trust' over what method they're using to measure their mileage.
It's not like anyone is being duped into anything here.

I think the OP's advert looks fine though.

Totally agree, anyone who fills the bottom of their ad with all these keywords of other similar models should get zero assistance here, they should be boycotted, plain and simple.

If I'm looking for a Passat I want to see a list of Passats, not a load of so-called 'similar' cars as determined by the sellers of those cars.

No point in bellyaching about it and then when we see a blatant example we roll over and start throwing hints and tips galore at this guy.

Just to thank all of you who looked over the ad. I had two calls last night to enquire about the car and one more arranged a viewing for the weekend so heres hoping! Thanks again for the help.

Thanks for looking over the ad folks, I sold the car today for €200 under the asking price. Very happy and am now off to join the ranks of 4x4 drivers.
