Im looking to track someone down for "personal reasons". I have the reg of his car, is there any way of me finding out who owns it or at least who the car is registered to?

Legally - very unlikely as their details are protected under the Data Protection Act.

The Gardai could alright but I'd imagine they would still need legal justification and permission.

Wow that doesn't sound dodgy at all mate.

How you ended up with the reg to someones car and no other contact details gives rise to a number of unusual scenarios as to how you met the person most of which would be illegal ;)

However you could try the Gardaí, you might get lucky or they might just tell you to GTF when you ask.

They are driving around a town i know well acting the cúnt, generally just being a scumbag and have crossed the wrong person (not me). Ive texted a friend of mine who is a guard to see if he can give me the details, wasnt sure if that was illegal of him to do or not.

The Gardai can get that info, also someone in the council might. If it's important enough to you that you'll pay a couple of hundred you could retain a private investigator who can get it for you.

Otherwise post a pic of the car badly parked and see if any boardsie knows it......

Yes it is illegal and if your starting a little vigilante campaign I don't see your mate giving you the details for everyones protection.

Cop on and make a complaint to the Gardaí and don't try and be a hard man as you'll end up in Court or worse

Why get involved if they didn't cross you?
Hopefully your Garda buddy will try and talk sense into you.

Thanks for that, but as i said, its nothing to do with me.
I was given the reg, make and model of the car to keep an eye out for it, and to see if i know the person driving it.

I wouldn't get involved in that case.
STEER CLEAR and let whoever wants to have a word with them fight their own battles. Nobody will thank you in the end for getting involved
