    <SNIP> company afaik

Mod edit: I dont think the naming of "possible" owners/directors of the company is relevant to the topic

Yep that's right although fair play to them at least it will provide a few jobs in the area for a while!

Thread locked as this is turning into a company bashing exercise.

Right then. I have given this some thought and also got a bit of advice and I am going to open the thread again.

But I will ask you all to be very careful as to what you post. You are responsible for the content of your posts and if necessary you may be asked to provide proof to back up certain comments.

No point in posting "hearsay" comments as this will only get you into trouble. Factual statements are more than welcome but as i said you may be asked to provide proof.

Contact myself or homer in advance if you are unsure if a particular comment will be acceptable or not.

Does anyone have a link to the story referred to by the OP?

I'm amazed that Council houses are being built in Donegal at the present time-surely there are sufficient unsold empty properties around the County that would be suitable*

*Whether these are suitable in the context of distance from Dungloe is another matter.

Is there a resource online that shows where council owned properties are located within the county??

you can see where the council plan to build or provide houses here
Its pretty clear, as you can see :)

The big question is does the council need to be building a brand spanking new estate regardless of who the contractor is?

Would the use of previously built housing schemes that are lying vacant nearby not be better or even a housing scheme nearby that has some groundwork problems that could be acquired at a decent price and repaired

it really doesn't make sense to be building this anyone got any idea of the project value?

The Donegal News reports today that Meenmara Developments tendered 3.99 million for this work and that Sark tendered 4.8 million.

It also reports that Clr. Ciaran Brogan and his brother are joint directors.

800K of tax payers money gone without explanation

Was there not something about flooding on their site that why it went to Sark instead

I didn't read the article yet but was just wondering was meenamara's tender for the same location because going off the council planning site it looks like the land was owned by Brian Brogan, so surely sark would win any tender for work on their own site?

this estate was the last estate to be given authorisation by the council before the enbargo came in on new housing estates.
there could be many valid reasons as to why they got the tender and not another company.
Any company starting a construction job must be able to show that they have adequate finances to start the job.I'm not stating that this is the reason for this decision but it is one that is always taken into consideration.
They might not have the adequate insurance in place or they may not have completed the tender properly.
I state again that I do not know the reasons why the council came to their decision I'm simply saying that it is not always black and white as the price.

Yes I agree, I do not know the reasons either but I would expect a statement from DCC would be reasonable and in the public interest.

I didn't know that existed. Great news. Now we will know where to avoid. So sorry to hear about Dungloe. Any more council houses and it will become a complete 'no go' area...
