Hi im hoping to start a trainee managerial role in a multi-national franchise. Problem is im a garda applicant and would probably leave to start garda training when offered, when it comes up.
So im assumimg i will be signing a contract, but wondered are there any repercussions for breaking the contract?

It depends on the exact terms of the contract. Most normal contracts of employment just stipulate a minimum notice period in the event of leaving. As a trainee this can't be particularly long (probably one month). A formal training contract might possibly have a clause regarding the repayment of certain education/certification fees in the event of leaving early. The contract will be presented to you in black and white so read carefully before you sign.

    Nothing really.
Companies don't want people working for them that dont' want to work.

I'd always advise you leave on good terms so offer a months notice minus holidays due.

The Garda must presume that people are working before joining them so I'd say they will give a months notice.

Worst case scenario, tell them you want to leave immediately - you aren't a serf and there is not a lot they can do.
