Scania Fire Engine Problem

    Hey guys,

We have a 2002 scania 94d p260 (i think) in our station, it has various gadgets and gizmos being a fire engine. It has an external Hydraulic mast with 4 floodlights as u may see.

To operate this the automatic gearbox is set to neutral, the gen/mast button is selected and theres a fast idle button that as it says it does boosts the revs to brighten the lights...

The problem we're having is that the truck would need to be running or driven for about 10mins before the high revs button will work. its as if the relay wont send the signal to boost revs. and after a while it works... Replacing relays doesnt fix the problem.

Also whats the deal with the exhaust break acting on its own not with the foot button pressed when the truck is cold?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated....

    Thanks guys
    Joe

There may be some setting in the vehicles parameters that does not allow it to rev until the running temp has been reached.

The exhaust break coming on when cold is common enough. It increases back pressure and gets the engine to running temp quicker

Yeah i'm prepared to agree with you on that.... But it never done it before. we have in since 2004. And both problems are only happening since we got the bad snow before Christmas gone.

When was the air dryer fliter changed , It sounds Likes a air solinde is sticking and when she warms up releases the valve.

Do ye drain the air tanks?

we never drain them... the truck wouldn't go long distances and there is weight but not a massive amount that it would sit heavy if you know what i mean.

I may check the other things you suggested... Although the brigade mechanic wants to just to disable the exhaust break, instead of fixing it, which is very helpful if you sense my sarcasm.

How easy is it to access the filter?

I think you may be a bit confused. The air tanks on the truck can accumulate water from condensation. The air drier filter has desiccate in it that is supposed to remove the moisture before it gets to the tanks but contaminates from the compressor reduce its effectiveness.

It should look something like this.

Not 100% sure but I think it is beside the passenger step on a scania

    That is not very smart

It could be something to do with the neutral switch on the box. It may be sticking until it warms up..

TBH , it is probably something you would need to talk to the original installer to figure out.

Dianostic's will not show up the problem , from working in a scania main dealer once apon a time, all the problem is a sticking valve either by water or lack of use.

I was in a New(2010) Scania Emergency Tender "bravo 1" over the last few days and its a lovely yolk and theres plenty of poke in her it has a CANbus Electrical Control System.....

The "alpha 1" is a 2001 scania and its a savage truck the only problem was the fan on it went..

The mast on it is the finest and goes up no bother..

Did yer D/M or S/O contact the Brigade Machenic...?
