Rexton Steering failure while driving

My 270xdi Rexton Steering completely disconnected while driving at the first spline joint where it enters the engine compartment. Luckily I was only doing 30 MPH having just come off the N7. This Rexton has never been crashed or abused in any way.
Does this warrant a recall as it can happen to other users if there is a design fault ?

Separate thread started rather than dredging up an old one.

A quick google has shown there have been a couple of recalls on Rextons but not the steering, nor does it bring up any results about steering failure. Have you had the fault looked at by a mechanic or referred it back to Ssangyong?

It only happened on Saturday evening. I was able to remove the bolt and refit the mechanism on the spline shaft and re-tighten the bolt.
There is wear on the bolt so clearly it wore sufficient for the mechanism
to slip over its recess and off the spline. I refitted it in a different position
by rotating the steering wheel a bit. I am not a mechanic but fairly handy.

I will take it to a garage or mechanic this week. However, it gave me a
serious shock and I think others should be aware of this potential probem.

The dealership is gone bust (Kylemore Motors), Windsor seems to have taken over SSangyong.

Bit of a scare alright and a worry. Definitely worth a call in to Windsor and Ssangyong themselves, probably to the UK office.
