Dubious about benefits of TRV's

A couple of days ago I had a new boiler and heating control upgrade installed. I have 4 radiators upstairs which have had TRV's fitted. What do they give me - that the original valves on the (seldom used - UF heating downstairs) radiators didn't? Why would the SEAI pay a grant for the installation of these?
My Plumbers quote mentioned 1 motorised valve and 1 X room thermostat, radio controls (which never materialised!) - and this I understood would provide us with Programmable radiators upstairs which is what we (and I presume the SEAI) wanted.

Have I been short changed here? Any help appreciated!

Trvs give individual control of each room temperature . I find them quite handy for bedrooms where you can lower the settings so rads will knock off when they reach temp. Seai will probably check your job, although sometimes after 6 months, and find something wrong! You should be able to switch heating on separately to hot water heating. Both should be controlled by stats. Also immersion timer fitted and earth bonding in hot press.

10sq on the gas pipe also if not already on it IS813 regs, Pressure relife valve piped to out side and terminating 100mm of the ground. Condens drain if out side in at least 11/4 pipe. Also the list keeps growing with every news letter they send out:mad:

Yeah, seai jobs are becoming a real pain in the ass! And more expensive to install.

Tell me about it. It's like there trying to turn people away from going for the grant.

Should be ok with the water/heating zones - but can you confirm that a 7-day programmable timer means you can choose different times for different days, as I also notice that ours is just select various times NOT various DAYS. Will this be an issue? Suspect I need plumber back here before BER inspection!

No that wouldn't be an issue. Your programmer sounds like a standard one.

What about a 5/2 day programmable room stat? I still cant get anyone from the so called SEAI Contractor hotline to answer me. I think there making it up as they go along.
