7 hour battery life, LED display, aluminium enclosure and Mac OS X are some of the major things that may (or may not) appeal to you about a Macbook Pro. It's way out of my own price range as well, so I can't say I've ever seriously weighed up how it compares to other 17-inch notebooks.

If you are considering a Mac I would encourage you to go into a shop and try one out. Apple put a lot thought into the construction and design of their machines, and the user experience is the main selling point.

However, I will say that if you are just looking for the biggest screen with the most power for the cheapest price - a Mac probably isn't for you.
