Media & YouTube Streaming - Computer Freezes

I've no idea where this issue came from. Flash Players are up to date and whatnot but this isn't just a YouTube issue (all other streaming sites work fine) but Windows Media Player also freezes or slows-down to the point where I have to re-click somewhere on the view-bar to fix the skippy/freezes and get things running normally - With YouTube you don't get this luxury because once it starts freezing (can happen at any point, seemingly randomly), you can't click anything and this has, at times, caused the whole computer to lock up temporarily.

It's at a point where I can watch 95% of WMP things relatively fine and even if it causes aggro, you can stomp it by moving the view-bar, but YouTube is barely watchable. If I intend to watch anything at all, you can guarantee the stream will freeze at some point, multiple times if it's a few minutes long, (Can't interact with the page but you can still hear the media running whilst the picture/comp is frozen) and this is EXTREMELY aggravating. Normally the whole comp doesn't freeze, just the tab in Firefox that has YouTube running, and while the sound and media keep playing (with frozen picture) you can't click to stop it until it decides to resolve itself (temporarily) before the next freeze.

Moments ago my whole comp was frozen during a 2min clip for at least 30seconds, everything was unclickable, couldn't tab out or get anything from button presses or mouse, but the sound was going just fine and the whole thing calmed down eventually.

What the f00k is going on?

My Graphics Drivers are up to date, Flash is up to date (Already tried re-installing it) and I've only just cleaned my registery. Virus checks and all manner of things were done yesterday.

Totally annoyed over this, been ongoing for weeks now.

    weeks eh

have you looked at your system restore points? maybe theres a clue in there, something you installed which might have had a bad reaction.

    Have you tried multiple browsers?

but are you experiencing the problems in chrome or IE8? For a long time my installation of firefox was bad and wouldnt display videos embedded in threads. I would back-up your links, make a note of your addons then purgificate Firefox's existence from your system and re-install from the latest build.

but you havent actually checked to see if you can smoothly stream video in IE8

All the same I think its worth re-installing firefox after removing it completely and cleaning the registry. you may think its a big hassle but it may just solve your problem.

Try chrome, it's miles ahead of firefox these days, faster opening same pages, better browser. I was a huge firefox fan but converted last yr, firefox is still installed but I never use it

I would be using chrome as Firefox has really fallen off the ladder this past year, but the adblocking still isnt what i would like out of it.

There is adblock now, I wouldnt move till there was, now im glad I did
    https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom

All my old addons are on chrome now, lastpass, xmarks (I still use them even though it has Google sync as they sync to dolphin browser on android), utorrent, sabnzbd, etc

hmm i dunno, i think i tried that adblock and it didnt like some things. You lost that handy ability to block objects manually (at least without having to reload the whole fupping page)

It's been a while though so ill give it fair shake.

it might not just be you ropey. got the same problem on all browsers just now. they all lock up i can still use explorer.exe and all but a lot of multiple processes for chrome and IE running around, loose plugin containers for firefox, etc.

    something is whacky.

Try right clicking on a flash video and untick enable hard ware acceleration. This is usually the problem.
