Playing this for the first time tomorrow - not sure how I haven't managed to play if before because I live and grew up less than 10 mins from the course! Anyhoo, I hear it's quite a nice, old-fashioned course, narrow off the tee etc?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the par-three down the hill is open at this time of year? I've heard it closes at certain parts of the year?

I am afraid it will be more than likley closed, they are redoing the tee on the 10th, I would say you will be off the winter 10th, which as winter holes go is still a nice hole and well elevated.

The 11th IMO is one of the best par 5s in the country, really nicely bunkered and very well framed with the Liffey on the right and mature trees on the left.

I love playing here and top notch food.

Great stuff, should have time for a bite as well... that's fine so, for some reason I was under the impression that when the 10th is out of commission there was no replacement hole. At least either way we'll have the full 18 so, bottom line - I'm happy!

    Cheers...

Any advice for the course itself? Looks tight, is it?

Its not as tight as it may appear but get out of shape and you will be punished, right off the tee on 5 is dead.

Greens generally have a great putting surface but can be quite subtle in their breaks, they can easily catch you out.

We did some flybys for them a few years ago, it was some of our 1st work so they are not so great on the quality but should give you an idea as to the strategy of each hole.

Not played in in a while but heard the greens are fantastic at the minute.

I've played it a few times and it's one of my favourite courses. +1 on the par 5 11th, it's a great hole.

The par 3 down the hill was closed the last time I played it but as was said earlier the winter hole is still a good hole.

By the way the 1st hole is probably one of the easiest on the course so make it count (I never do)

    I wish I'd read this before I left! :)

Took driver off the tee and tugged it only slightly left but it careered off a tree into... well, some more trees! Anyhoo, as I stick the driver back in the bag I see my two-handicap partner (who I should've let tee off before my useless 15-handicap a*se anyway!) practise-swinging with his rescue club. I said "You hittin a rescue??" He says "Aw yeah, ye don't need a driver here mate..." B*stard... :D

So, an opening bogey on the Index18, but the front nine was a dream from there - played it four over, five pars, four bogeys.

Lovely course. I stumbled on the back with two terrible trebles but finished with 37 points and really enjoyed the course. The 11th is indeed a cracker, I was fuming to miss a three-foot par putt on it.

Also, as stated, the 'winter' 10th is a super hole on it's own so I didn't feel like I missed out at all. I flew the green here and played my best chip of the day to about 6ft but missed the damn putt.

Anyhoo, I'll be back - and soon!

Played here today in a rare open, best greens I've ever stepped on, front nine was nice but the back nine is just unreal, one good hole after another, the 11th along the liffey is pure class. Like the op ive lived few mins drive from it without ever managing to play it.

    the Greens are the best,

I know for a few years Harrington was practicing out there before the masters as the greens were the same speed.

the green keeper is excellent and the course is always always in great nick
