Container is usually cheap but you'll find it cramped with 200 Irish graduates

Haven't China had a disproportionate number of crashes in recent years? If I was you I'd probably look for the 2nd cheapest flight.

There was an Aeroflot €300 return fare to China this year again (I booked it myself last year). The error fare was pulled from Expedia but keeps coming back on a US site. It may be available for some dates right now.

It can usually be better to go to airline websites rather than ebookers etc. Finnair and Aeroflot are usually the cheapest, and you change in Helsinki or Moscow. I got to China in September '09 for about £500 return with Emirates via Dubai and sweet Jesus was it luxury all the way!! And I was in economy. If there isn't much of a difference in price, go with Emirates!

If you're flying to a smaller city within China, try Air China from Heathrow. They will usually throw in the domestic flight from Beijing or Shanghai for no extra cost if you do it all on one booking.

  • thanks for all the info guys and girls :)

What did you decide in the end?

AirChina are offering $50 off a ticket if you buy using paypal by 18 April and travel before 31 July. It's a US offer but it applies worldwide
