Note: I probably won't sell this on adverts, and I am not advertising this in any way on here, its just a question.

    I have this laptop:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Satellite-A500-17X-Widescreen-TruBrite%C2%AE-GeForce%C2%AE/dp/B002VVB4R4/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1299435189&sr=1-3

Exactly a year old, few scratches on the left and right click buttons but otherwise in perfect nick. I want to upgrade to a MacBook Pro so I need to sell this first. What would be a fair enough price to sell it at? I bought it at €799 so I was kinda hoping to get around €550.

I don't however have the box or receipt, I can request a receipt from where I bought it however.

    Thanks for your help.

You'd be lucky to get half that tbh. There are many new models available for around €550, with arguably better specs. Coupled with a 1 years manufacturers guarantee, anyone would be crazy to pay €550 for one out of warranty. e.g. http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5084801/c_1/1|category_root|Office%2C+PCs+and+phones|14418968/c_2/3|15701344|Laptops+and+netbooks|14419039/c_3/4|cat_14419039|Laptops|14419040.htm

I think €500 is fair then. For that money the specs are really good. The graphics card is what sets this apart.

    nVIDIA® GeForce® GT 230M - 1GB Dedicated versus Shared graphics and an
Intel GMA with HD graphics card.

Throw it up on adverts at that if you think that's what it's worth.

But it's all down to what someone is willing to pay, and i think even 500 is pushing it.

    It sucks.

I'd be hesitant to pay €200 for that laptop.

its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and honestly if a friend was gonna buy it, id say to him make an offer of 200-250max

    goodluck tho

and sorry do you really need a MBP?

Here is just an idea i know some people that needed mac's for what ever reason's programs that would only run on a mac os so rather then get rid of there laptop's i got them to try out there laptops runing a duel boot of windows and a mac os most of them were happy to just keep there laptop's and run the duel boot.

So that might be worth a try ?

ya its against the terms of the os, anyway, a day? probably not long enough to get used to the UI silly if you ask me

Thats nice knowing what people are offering but why are you offering those prices? I can walk into Currys and get a netbook for €200-300 when this is lot more powerful.

Thats just the way it is unfortunately, things like this drop like a stone in value, especially when there out of warranty. Theres a lot to be said that if you plan on keeping a laptop only for a short amount of time, get as cheap as one is possible, you'll only take a massive hit with one around the 800€ bracket.

Its worth about €350. €400 tops if it was boxed, mint and the buyer was keen.

The reason its not worth more is that it is second hand, old spec, and without any warranty or comeback.

you'd be lucky to get €300 tbh (€275 is more realistic). there's little point in trying to convince yourself that it's worth €500 as that will only be in your own head.

you can get a dual core laptop with dedicated graphics for just over €400 new.
