Does anyone know of any good deals around on 5W30 oil, and how do people rate Halfords own brand?

I would go with the Halfords oil. I use their Fully Synthetic oil for years, covered way over 100k km and I can't say a single bad word about the oil. It makes the engine running smooth, keeps it very clean and in the winter months the engine starts very easily from cold (the car has covered nearly 370k km).

Ive used Halfords oil several times in the past when servicing my cars & it seems fine.

They had a great deal on Castrol edge lately.

Not in my Halfords, they were giving away a tub of hand cleaner with it.

They did however have a great deal on Mobil 1, which I have switched to on my last oil change. Its 20% off so the ESP comes in about €51 which is good value for 5L.
    Mobil 1

On a side note the Castrol Edge is gone up to a shocking price, I think its €68.99 now for 4 litres.
    Castrol

I'm totally gone off castrol at this stage, the high price is bad enough but the 4L cans really annoy me too, most cars would need at least 4.5L, and mine needs 5.5L, meaning you either need to buy 2 extortionately priced 1L bottles or another 4L.

Even the Mobil 1 is €19.99 a litre, complete rip off.

In short OP I can recommend Mobil 1 ESP :)

I saw that, with a free tub of swarfega as well.

The question is do I really need a tub of swarfega so much that I will have to pay 6-7 euro extra?

The Castrol was away cheaper than now with no swarfega. I am going to use the Mobil in future..
