    Hi,

Four of us are looking to go to Santa Ponsa mid June.
I've checked holidaysonline.ie and it says €500 per person and the apartment seems to be alright.

Does anyone know of any cheaper prices on a package deal?

    Thanks

Book flights with Ryanair and accomodation with Alpharooms.. I wouldnt dream of booking a package holiday, way too expensive.. Taxis everywhere outside Palma Airport and be in Santa Ponsa in 10 mins.

Seven of us ~ 4 ad and 3 children went the second week in August which is peak time and we only paid €2300 for the whole lot. (2 years ago)

wow - 10 mins. i went there as a kid - always package holiday - and due to that we'd get the tour operator bus to the hotels. so it'd take an hour or two to get around the hotels on route. so not going for the package sounds good.

id also recommend - if you see a hotel you like on say... expedia.ie or that then check the price of it all on the hotel website as well as on eg. expedia - because sometimes a hotel has deals on their website if you book direct.

Just had a quick check there..

    14 - 21 June 2011

Ryanair ~ Dublin to Palma for 4 adults is €870 (inc bags and credit card fee)
Deya Apts for 4 adults is €200
    Total ~ €1070

Split that 4 ways and its €267.50 per person

If you need two apts then total is €1270 which is €317.50 per person

Either way ~ Pretty good savings :)

Sorry ~ Its about 20 mins (depending on traffic) But roughly around €40 :)

I was looking into The portifino apartments. They seem ok and have a good location. Do you have any experience with them?

What other charges can we expect? I've never done a 'DIY' holiday before.

    Hey

Havnt heard of them to be honest but just looked there and although they look to be right beside the beach
they are at the other end of Santa Ponsa.. Away from all the hustle and bustle.
The Irish Strip and the majority of shops are
on the Ramon de Moncada. In my opinion if ye are a young group i would consider somwhere on the Ramon de Moncada. The beach is fabulous and its a lovely walk, we only ever walked down that end once though. You are quite a distance from the square aswell for evening entertainment.

Have a look here for things to do etc.

Re charges: Once you get up flights with Ryanair it gives you a price, then on next page add luggage, then add €20 credit card fee.. (I never purchase Travel Insurance but obviously thats a personal decision)

With the apartments using Alpharooms its usually only a few euro on top of the price you get when browsing for the booking fee.

The prices i gave you are pretty much all in bar a few euro either way. Taxi from Palma Airport to Santa Ponsa is approx €40 then aswell..

As there was 7 of us i pre booked with this company
    http://www.majorca-airport-transfers.com/index.asp

There is an option to pay on arrival instead of at booking. Thats what we did and had no problems.

P.S. First time i booked a DIY was this holiday, was terrified we would end up apartmentless for the week or something but couldnt believe how well things worked out. Will never book a package again :)

We did the same as Mom2be for my hens , we booked with Ryanair and got a great deal at the Deya with Alphrooms. Cant remember the price now , it was 3 years ago but it was good and we've never booked package holidays since then.

Really appreciate your help here! :)

From google maps it looks like the Deya is very near to sun beach apartments, which i've heard bad things about. The price is very good though. How would the Deya rank in comparison to Sun Beach?

Alpharooms also do transfers. They will organise someone to pick you up from the airport and drop you back. I always use this service in the Canaries as it is very handy and I have never had a hassle. I would presume Santa Ponsa would be the same.

You get two options for transfers for 4 people:

Shuttlebus: €7.80 each way per person

    or

Taxi: 13.88 each way per person.

I haven't booked a package holiday in about 5 years. I always save on average 250-300 per person going to Gran Canaria booking everything myself as apposed to booking with a travel agent.

    Cheers for the info!

Taxi transfer is probably what I would go for.

Alpharooms seems to be the cheapest for rooms.

I found Deya to be very noisy , fine for us because we were on a hens and joining in with the noise but not somewhere I'd stay with children.
Alpharooms are great , we always book through them now.

Its no bother :) Nice to be nice eh....

I agree with Karen23, Although i have never stayed in the Deya apts, there was always alot of young people going in and out of there and on the balconies drinking etc.
This wouldnt bother me in the slightest though, im pretty easy going.. Once its cheap and cheerful im happy :)

If you have kids then id consider the Holiday Park. About a 3 min walk from Deya. Its nothing spectacular (rooms are clean and tidy) but the pool area is fab and we spent most of the week by the pool. A young crowd too but mostly families..
The beauty about Santa Ponsa is that everything is pretty much central..

Yeah that won't bother us. Were a bunch of lads going :)

Prob going to go with the deya.

I have a question about alpha rooms. on the the serach page where you can pick what type of room you want, there is an option for "Promotional room" any idea what this means?

4 lads ~ Deya or Sun Beach will suit ye so.. Ye're only lookin 4 somewhere to lay ye're heads for a few hours after a nite on the town,ha!

No i dont know what the promotional thing is about but i usually just go for the cheapest option ~ 1 bedroom apt self catering. Cant go wrong :)

Just to let you know aswell, the credit card fee has gone up for Ryanair which is a joke. It was always only €20 for a whole booking regardless of the amount of passengers. But now it is €12 per person. My advice would be to buy a prepaid mastercard (i think they are €6) which are similar to the 3V prepaid cards. If you book using the prepaid mastercard there is no charges which would save ye the €48 booking fee with Ryanair.

Anymore questions then you know where to find me :)

Deya is giving me the following options :

1 bedroom apartment Self catering , Bed and Breakfast , Half Board

Apartment - Double/Twin Self catering , Bed and Breakfast , Half Board

1 Bedroom Apartment - Sea View Self catering , Bed and Breakfast , Half Board.

I bought a prepay internet card from The Pavillions In Swords and saved on the Ryanair fees too.

Cut the travel agent out and save a packet , more beer money for you :D
