Does it really take more than one person to shoot Gadaffi. With an ego his size I'm supprised none of the stray bullets have hit him.

Actually they captured them yesterday. Sorry.
They were apparently sent in to get a diplomat out.
They are expected to be released either today or tomorrow at the latest.

I've watched and read my fair share about the SAS. They do missions such as rescuing or even escorting people. Such as diplomats.

But ... I would be skeptical at the same time. if they were caught, which they were, they'd hardly say they were doing recon work etc if that was their purpose.

Spying no doubt, gauging the situation to see what 'ideological' stance the Brits should take on this.

Which side do we support in our own interests?

Not surprising, the meddling Brits are everywhere.

A British diplomatic team, thought to include SAS soldiers, which was detained by Libyan rebels has been freed, foreign secretary William Hague has confirmed.

The eight-strong unit “experienced difficulties” while escorting a junior diplomat but has now left the country bound for Malta on board HMS Cumberland.

The Sunday Times revealed how the team was captured while moving through the second city of Benghazi, in the east of Libya, as they attempted to reach the leader of rebel forces attempting to over throw Colonel Gaddafi.

Earlier today defence secretary Liam Fox confirmed the government was in communication with group and admitted it was a “very difficult situation” but would make no further comment.

But this evening Hague confirmed the diplomatic team had left Libya and work was continuing to “strengthen dialogue” with the opposition.

In a statement he said: “I can confirm that a small British diplomatic team has been in Benghazi. The team went to Libya to initiate contacts with the opposition.

“They experienced difficulties, which have now been satisfactorily resolved. They have now left Libya.

“We intend, in consultation with the opposition, to send a further team to strengthen our dialogue in due course. This diplomatic effort is part of the UK's wider work on Libya, including our ongoing humanitarian support.

“We continue to press for Gaddafi to step down and we will work with the international community to support the legitimate ambitions of the Libyan people."

Meanwhile rebel fighters claim to have fought off troops loyal to Gaddafi in two cities during another day of bloody fighting.

The town of Misrata, some 125 miles east of the capital Tripoli, was the scene of a pitched battle with government forces using tanks and artillery in attempt to dislodge rebel control.

A doctor reported that at least 18 people were killed and many more injured in five hours of fighting.

But the protestors claim to have beaten back the attacks in Misrata, the biggest rebel stronghold in western Libya, and in the town of Zawiyah.

Airstrikes by Gaddafi’s forces reportedly hit the strategic oil port of Ras Lanuf, but failed to reclaim it, but they may have retaken control of the Bin Jawwad.

In Tripoli reports of early –morning gunfire was dismissed as celebratory fireworks by a government spokesman.

When it ceased, thousands of supporters poured into Tripoli’s central square for a rally, waving green flags, firing guns in the air and holding up banners in support of the regime.

David Cameron has reiterated the UK government’s demand for Gaddafi to step down immediately.

In a speech to the Conservative Spring forum in Cardiff, he said: “When Margaret Thatcher was prime minister, this party stood by those who wanted to reject Communism and embrace freedom.

“And today, this party stands by those reaching for that same freedom in the Arab world.

“On Libya, our strategy is clear.

“We will continue to intensify pressure on the regime.

“We will continue to state clearly that international justice has a long reach and a long memory, and that those who commit crimes against humanity will not go unpunished.

“We will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by this crisis, and continue to demand access for aid agencies to reach those in need.

“And we will continue to plan, with our allies, for every eventuality.

“But let me repeat, it is time for Gaddafi to go.”

This is a good indicator of how deadly the Libyan rebels are.

There is something very not right with everything going on in Libya. I keep seeing news reports that just don't look real. Fake almost.

Some guys in a desert with guns and shaky camera work.

Yeah I know. Conspiracy forum etc but just saying...

No one give a flying fuk when some African dictator decides to slaughter some tribe in his country but Libya?

Maybe some arms contracts needed renewing or something.

i'm glad Gadaffi is grasping the situation, all those foreign insurgents, homesoil jokers and news agencies trying to promote destability n talk up a war disgusts me.

laughing hard at hilary clinton's words, swung a lot of the foreign insurgents Gadaffi's way :D

What I find more worrying is the modern new media, twitter and what have you. Who are these people saying what is happening "on the ground" etc.

Hate to say it but I am kind of preferring my old media when things were verified by sources before being considered "news"

Sure anyone could be pretending to be there spouting crap. Seriously. It is very worrying. :(

revolting isn't it. we have news agencies following insurgents around, mythmaking, making them appear heroic, feel heroic fuelling their ego's and their cause. Saif Gadaffi was a class act, Sky News/SAS the brits just can't lay off imagine have to bear the company of that insufferable daughter of a simpson who insists on digging for dirt; locating apparent devastation which never existed. fúcking scumbags man..

How about letting the Libyans decide for themselves if they want this guy in power or not.

People in Tunisia & Egypt turned themselves into a human torch in protest, sort of an indication they might not feel too good about the shower in charge doncha think?
