Film 4(+1) reception

Entry level Televes RSD 7118 box
Generic Sky compatible dish (4 port LNB - 3 connected)
Approx. 12 metre line / No amplification.

Is it just a weak signal? I've fine-tuned the dish quite a
few times now, and Film 4/+1 can often break up where
all others remain fine. Also Channel 4 & More4+1, to a
    lesser degree.

Signal intensity for the three channels averages about
mid-eighties but the signal Quality bounces all over from
60s peaking no more than high 70s. Sorry if I missed any
previous discussions about this, I did try a search.
    (Well, one).

    Thanks in advance.

    No other channels affected ?

    Possible interference from other devices.

Is there a base station for portable (Dect) phone on the house ?

Is so then unplug phone to see if situation improves.

Thanks Trevord, No change when unplugged.
Only other broadcast device is the UPC cisco
box, located about 10 metres away. Closest wifi
enabled PC is however only 1 metre away
(through a wall) from dish, although I get poor
signal whether this PC is switched on or off.

It did lead me to check all the channels more
closely, (still mostly on upc for telly) and it
seems Channel 4 and more 4+1 both suffer
similar degredation, just not as bad.

    *OP amended*

Right, just checked on an other identical
setup in a different room, and the levels
are much higher. Time to re-check my
    connections. Thanks for your time
    :o

There seems to an increasing number of reports of problems with interference with this group of channels.

Have you tried turning off all wireless devices e.g. DECT phones, routers, baby monitors etc?

Are you living in an isolated dwelling or could there be interference from a nearby house?

Is the cable from the dish diplexed/shared with TV aerial?

You might also check the f-connectors on the coax or maybe even refit. Have you any idea what type of coax cable is being used i.e. silver/aluminium foil or copper foil?

I have a mix (big no-no, no doubt on this
badly performing line) of silver & the older,
    heavy duty copper mesh coax.

Copper mesh is TV aerial coax and is going to be highly prone to signal loss and interference.

Ideally, you should use single runs of PF100/PH100 grade i.e. copper braid with copper foil cable.

Will do. To the shops! Ta.

    Thanks Apogee. Single un-interrupted line.
Signal intensity now up at 90% and almost
    80% quality. No picture bitmapping.

If this was my day job I'd be embarrassed.
    Cheers.
