Hole in tooth??

I was having dinner at a friend's house today and noticed that the second molar on my lower teeth seemed unusually sharp, as if it were jagged, but I couldn't check it out until I got home about an hour ago. It looks like a chunk has fallen out of my tooth and I'm terrified! It is like a shard at the edge has come out, with a brownish hole in the middle of the tooth, that I'm afraid to explore too thoroughly.

Obviously I'm making an appointment with the dentist ASAP, but what could this possibly be?? Will I need a filling? :( I've always tried to take excellent care of my teeth and have never needed anything like that before. Any help would be great as I am getting quite nervous! Oh I should add that I'm in no pain at all, but I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing??

Sounds like your tooth is rotting. You will definately need at least a filling. If there's no pain it probably won't be pulled.

Its no big deal, you just need a filling. Dont get anxious about it, it happens. Get your dentist to give the other teeth a good check to see how things are.

    Relax.

Yes it was just a filling :o I was just worried as I'd never had one before and didn't realise there has to be an actual hole in the tooth for a filling! Thanks guys!
