I need to get new brakes ,new license plates and a new balljoint .
How much roughly will all this cost from a small garage, not major dealer?
The car is South Afican and is a 95 ,old but nice.

Two sets of pads for front brakes plus fitting - 150 euro
Reg plates - 30 euro, get from Halfords or motor factors.
Ball joint and fitting - 100 euro

These are ballpark and can vary greatly. You need to ring a few garages and get real quotes.
Pads you can do yourself, or have a friend help with.
    Plates too.

Far to vague to price, what is the issue with the brakes? what ball joint need replacing?

The answers to those questions could vary the prices by huge amounts.

To be honest I havent a clue about the workings of cars .The guy in the nct place said that the brake pads were worn but also something about how both sides of the car had to be balanced ,floating something .
The balljoint is worn on one of the wheels .I think its front left one.
I always go to garages ,small local ones .I wouldnt chance messing with a car ,because I have no knowledge .Im a woman ,which will only add to stero typing ha.
I love cars ,but thats as far as it goes.

Trust me, I'm dealing with customers every day and most men don't know any more about how cars work then most women.

Well brake pads including sensors(if your car has them) would be about €75-€80 fitted.
The imbalance could be more expensive, a seized caliper for example could be €200.

Front balljoints would probably be around €100 fitted as the lower wishbone has to come off and they have to be pressed in and out.

Prices are never going to be accurate unless the details on the nct sheet are seen and the car is inspected to see what exactly(especially in relation to the brakes) is needed.
