Haven't used this trading service in a long time up until tonight and was astonished to learn that they now charge for posting 'A' ad since when did this start?

I recently discovered the same thing when I went to place an advert.
I hadn't used them for some time as I find Adverts.ie so much better and
some items I had for sale attracted much more response than the same adverts on B&S.

I can't imagine their business doing as well since they've started charging.

Pardon my ignorance as I don't know the site but how can it make money if it doesn't charge?

    http://www.buyandsell.ie/

The magazine is around for many years, as is it's website.

I believe it was bought by new owners a few years back.

It was always free to place a basic advert for selling almost anything,
but like everything else, gradually the free options became restricted,
and now as the OP stated, you can no longer advertise anything for free.

Not sure how they made their money from the free adverts, but maybe their premium phone lines or the advertisements they carried were generating enough revenue to make them a profitable operation.

    John.

Did you follow up on the reason John just there? Nevertheless I'll be sticking with 'gumtree' although I will try that one out you mentioned also.

    Thanks

No, I didn't. I just changed to Adverts.ie for my small bit of horse-trading.
