    1. Even if it will not be renewed you will obtain another policy policy in July you will still have your NCB most likely.
Depends on insurance company, but most of them accept NCB issued up to year back.

    2. Some insurance companies will renew your policy automatically.
That's what happened with me as I was away. My intention was not to renew it. To make sure I rang them few days before renewal date. They told me, that it's too late now as policy was already renewed, and new disc and cert sent to my address. And if I want to cancel it I need to send them back. I told them I can't send them back because I didn't receive them as I'm abroad, and can't receive post at my Irish address. They explained it's not their problem. So be careful.

    3. If you are leaving for a while consider suspending your policy. You will get a refund for a period when policy was suspended, and still earn you full year NCB.

    hi

i asked about suspending , i was told it can be done minimum for 3 months so wont be an option for me as i ll be missing 1 month out of the current policy, and 2 out of a new one in case i renew straight away

would u say aviva is one of those companies ? that would be good as id just set up a new policy when im back in july

also about them renewin it automatically, is that cos you paid by direct debit maybe?
i paid it all at once with the credit card at the start , so i'd guess they cant just take money out without me authorising it

I'm not sure about aviva how old NCB statements they accept. Just ring them to make sure.

But with suspension all insurance companies I was with so far minimum required period for suspension was 1 months. I assume there is some law which requires insurance companies to provide such an option, but I can't find this law at the moment.
Anyway. I was suspending policy few months back for 1.5 months and it was with aviva. They told me that minimum period is 1 months.

Yes. That's true - policy was paid by direct debit. But I actually though, if I'll want to renew it I will have to sign new direct debit statement. Unfortunately they renewed it, took the money and I couldn't really do anything about it. I assume if you paid by credit card they won't be able to take money from it again, but who knows really ;) maybe they will.
PS. It was all with aviva as well.

    thanks for the feedback

i used chill.ie as a broker to end up with aviva, so maybe that's why they told me 3 months, anyway i ll get in touch with them next week, just to make sure they wont debit me a grand automatically !

    thx again
