I brought a backbox for my 98 civic coupe a few months back. It is a 4inch RACELAND second hand exhaust. Since then I have noticed a huge loss of power. Im not saying its the exhaust but it happened not long after. Is there a test you can do to see if the exhaust is the problem??. Thanks in advance for any help.

I drive a DC2 Teg R, and the was an after Market stainless cat back(tanebe) on it when I got it. I got 4hp more with the standard than I did with the aftermarket!

admittedly exhausts can be temperamental, but 4bhp wouldn't be massively noticeable in your day to day would it? though i know a lot of engines need the back pressure from the correct exhaust system to run happily.

i know feck all about hondas though, not my thing.

personally if its feeling sluggish, if you changed the plugs when you serviced it, id be looking at my oxy sensor, and if you have an aftermarket air filter/ induction kit be sure its in a good place to get fresh air and that your MAF is connected and in good shape.

after that if its feeling majorly down on power, maybe its a clutch problem

what engine is in the civic?

Graham spotted that on the dyno. There's a lot to be said for the standard DC2 exhaust though to be fair, you need to spend a fair wedge to find a better aftermarket exhaust, these guys bending pipes in sheds and claim power increases are talking through their hole.

Best thing to do op is to stick the standard system on and see how it runs.

    I can't see a 4" doing a N/A any favors tbh....

I will once I get a new one. The garage I got it taken off threw it out . Thanks for the replies lads. Its a 1.6lsi (yes I know not that fast :P), but defenetly a power decrease. In the mean time I am going to take off the exhaust until I get a standard one and take it up to road and see how she fairs.

With no exhaust? If so you'll be way down on power with no backpressure

Yeah i wouldn't run her with no backbox on it, if you think its down in pressure now it will be crawling without anything.

hahaha good thing I didnt take it off otherwise I would have been really worried :P. Im not for the standard exhaust dough, I want something that has a bit of noise that doesnt effect power???
