Rosaleen McDonagh and William Priestly represent sections of society that the Seanad is designed to allow into politics. If I had a DU vote, I'd use it on them.

I thought one of FG's main plans was to abolish the Seanad? Why bother with all of this if they're just going to shut it down in a few months?

    Another constitutional understanding fail:(

FG Can't abolish the Seanad. They have to hold a referendum and if passed the Seanad would be abolished following the next election.

Forgive my ignorance, I'm not that up on all of this. They were banging on about it so much in their campaign I assumed it was something they could actually do.

That's what they were hoping when they said it.

This is were the rot sets in.
We had so much talk about changing the system I don't buy hiding behind the constitution on such matters, (We amended it for good friday).
We should hold a referendum on the matter and let the will of the people, either way, democratically over-write all else. It's the only way to make any modern changes which speak to today's environment.
The constitution is there to serve us not entrap us.

Oh and Fiona O'Malley? Get the f*** out of it:rolleyes:
