If so, I was wondering if you could tell me what the phrase "predredge to grade" means? It's the "to grade" part that I don't understand.

This is in the context of predredging a river bed as stage one of installing sheet pile cofferdams to facilitate the construction of bridge piers.

    Thanks

    hi breadmonkey

predredge to grade will mean that the river bed will first need to be dredged or excavated to a certain fall, its similar to say a new sewer pipe which is excavated and then laid to certain levels and falling at a specified grade, ie 1 in 100 means a grade falling 1m in depth every 100m in distance,

this lowering of the river bed will be carried out before the piers are constructed.
