Hes like a bad smell, whats the count now, hes been rejected by the people in 4 of the last 5 times that he has stood before us. Why should someone who got 1.8% of our votes get awarded with a cushy 90k job (+ a similar amount in annual expenses, plus a pension). Will he not get the message, the people of galway do not want him representing us.

If he gets re-elected to thje Seanad I will never vote again

Galway Green Party Senator Niall O'Brolchain has joined the race to keep his seat in the Seanad.
He's among 27 candidates who have nominated themselves to run in the three-seater National University of Ireland Seanad Constituency.
Senator O'Brolchain was eliminated on the second count in the Galway West General Election this week, polling 1,153 votes.
He's joined in the Seanad race by Ahascragh native Senator Ronan Mullen who's also seeking to retain his seat.

He's not forcing people to vote for him...

Meh, so we get another chance to humiliate him at the next GE. And if there are multiple recounts we get to see him eliminated like some type of groundhog day. I for one enjoyed that bit. Bye Niall, Oops, there you go again Niall, seeya! Ah now Niall, three times in one election, you're just getting careless at this stage......

    :pac:

Seanad is closer to €65k, so if he's on €90k someone should inform the clerk that he's on the wrong pay scale.

He is a member of the Greens but what amazes me is you say he was rejected 4 out of the last 5 times ! Does that mean the good people of Galway accepted him once !

O' Brolchain was on shop street a few weeks with a small group of protesters protesting against FG and stag hunting.

I dont get it. The country is down the toilet economically and all they cared about was stag hunting. If Ireland defaults stag hunting will be the last thing on peoples minds.

I marched up to the group and told them that I was going to give FG my first 4 preferences because of stag hunting (I really wasn't going to though). They weren't too impressed.

If Ireland defaults we'll all still go to work, head home, watch TV and act no differently.

Stag hunting protests are to some people what watching TV and surfing the net are to others.

The legislative programme doesn't and shouldn't come to a halt just because the country is in financial difficulty.

I'd be more annoyed at Ronan Mullen getting re-elected tbh.

When asked to cut arts funding in favour of the war effort, Churchill replied: 'then what are we fighting for'?

Thank you. I've just found the mantra I'm going to repeat to myself the next time I see these idiots out protesting.

Also was in favour of the western rail corridor...

Also in favour of the galway luas when putting on more buses would be less capital intensive and actually probably profitable. The galway luas, what a joke

What would be better for Galway - and most places - would be an expansion of the Dublin bike scheme.

The only place I feel needs a tram system similar to Luas is Cork, with a line running Douglas - Centre - Bishopstown, that would be great for students and factory workers

As for local Galway issues - the rural bus service to Carna nearly got pulled, he and his party were not much help there.
Un-remediated quarries in Co. Galway are a major and growing problem, he and his party were not much help there
The propping up of the worst Government in living memory, he and his party were not much help there

On a personal level, no problems with the man, but the Green executive and their parliamentary party really sold out the grass roots.

Its now time for principled greens like Ocean Frog to win back the party from opportunists and idiots like Byrne and Gogarty
