Yeah I have a Proceed and absolutely love it. My advice would be to go test drive one. The car is really nippy and economical and looks the best from the 3. I would advice you to go for the 115 bhp version.

I had a Golf aswel, pretty decent car but largely overpriced and over hyped.

My advice would be go for the PRoCeed however as I said go take a test drive.

You get alloys, bluetooth, air con and fog lights with the old model focus now which you wont with the new one.You think its still worth waiting

It is always better from a resale perspective to buy the new model.

The entry model has SFA as standard, so is best avoided. No-one will buy it anyway so it will be a very hard car to sell on.

The new model Style has everything you need bar alloys.

I would go for the Zetec though, that has alloys, fogs, bluetooth and a premium centre console.

I'm not sure of the pricing of the new car, but I would imagine that the 115 PS diesel is not a lot more than the 95 PS, and that would definitely be worth the extra dosh, especially as it is in the same VRT and tax band (€104).

What would be the major disadvantage of buying the older model focus over the new model is it the trade in value after.

Really depends on how long you would plan on keeping the car. For people who only change their cars every 10 years or when there is a scrappage scheme then buying the old model at a heavily discounted rate makes sense. It is better equipped, tried & tested technology and will be worth roughly the same as a 10 year old new shape model.

On the other hand if you change your car every 2 years then expect to loose your shirt on the old model in 2 years time.

I bought a golf 1.6tdi and I am delighted with it. Great economy and lowest tax rate.(4.2lt per 100km)
I went for a comfortline with some extras and its a very comfortable drive. Also the resale of golfs is very good and I should know as this is my 8th one.

I've been hearing that the reliability of the Golfs is not that great with problems with some not sure if it is true or not
