I am a bad dart person - can I be traced

Hi - Its been years since I used the Dart so today I went through at Seapoint and the ticket desk was closed, I had a quick glance for a ticket machine diden't see one so I sallied forth, ticketless. However... A ticket inspector got on the train informed me that there were ticket machines at every DART station and promptly gave me a 100 euro fine which I felt was way too high so..... (and this is why I am the bad dart person) I gave a false address but a real name.

I had no ID on my so he simply wrote the ticket I politely accepted it and that was that. I deserved a fine but not one which is over half my weekly income.

So the question is... can I be traced?

    Sincerely, bad dart person

Of course you can be traced given enough effort, you gave your real name, and there are cameras on the platforms of all the Dart stations, and probably in the Dart carriage too. The real question is whether anyone has the inclination to follow up.

DART has gone proof-of-payment now? What happened to the turnstiles; thought that Howth Junction and Bray were basically the only stations on the system without them? Even stations like Leixlip had turnstiles back in the 1980s when the commuter rail re-opened there.

This "ticket machine" game is entrapment. Also the prelude to a police state, so watch out. No allowances would be made for broken ticket machines?

(I was going to make a joke based on the O.P.'s seemingly amusing handle, especially related to not playing darts at bars and perhaps the similarly-named light rail in Dallas, Texas...but this story really made me angry. If it turns out the inspector was lying, then you have a case against the fine.)

I know for a fact that there is no ticket machine in Carlow stationsince early in January due to a single incident of wanton destruction by a local untouchable, so it is entirely possible that there was no working machine at the station where the op began their journey.

...and if he decides to challenge the fine on the basis that the ticket machine was broken/didn't exist when he went through the station, I'm sure it'd be a pretty easy thing to verify.

They will send the fine to your fake address. It will then be returned to the dart people as undeliverable. This most likely happens every week and would cost more than the fine to track you down. You have heard the last of this.

PM me if this turns out not to be the case. I'd be interested to know.

A here now Foggy_Lad...you can`t come on saying things like this about Carlow, some of my best friends are from Carlow....and only the females have, thus far, proven to be "Untouchable"....c`mon man we need Names here !!! :D

I'm always amazed with the number of people who will quickly lie on the spot to cover up their own failings.

And then we are asking our politicians to be whiter than white!

Ah now BrianD,this ain`t really a baddartperson, just somebody who needs a little tenderness and understanding perhaps...and it`s not actually lying as such is it ? more like a little economy with the veracity..?

Perhaps baddartperson is a Jesuit ?

Back in the 80's my brother was caught bunking the London Undergrounds, gave a false name & address. About two weeks later he was pulled aside by station attendants who in turn handed him over to the cops. Luckily he got away with a slap on the hand with a nominal fine. He didn't do it again, this was 25 years before smart cards, CCTV, Rfid, mass surveylance and people tracking.
