General Anesthetic for 8 yr old ?

My 8 year old son needs to have significant work done on his teeth. He needs 2 extractions, a number of fillings and then fisher seals all around. The only problem is he is absolutely terrified (and I do mean terrified) of dentists and gets into a state of screaming as soon as he sits in the chair. The advice from the dentist is that he needs a GA to get the work done.

It seems that work dental work under GA for kids in not that common and that unless the child has special needs (which he doesn't) that this must be done in a private hospital.

My son who lives with his Mum is now booked into a private clinic for this treatment in a few weeks.

I am wondering if this treatment (which I do accept needs a GA) can be carried out anywhere other than a private clinic which is going to be at very significant expense.

    All advice very welcome.

    Thanks

Our 5 yr old had a tooth out in James hospital along with a room full of other 5 yr olds). We had brought him to local health clinic and they set up appointment in James. He was only out for 3 mins but he was completely out of it. He whimpered for about an hr after it but more shock of blood etc but after that he was grand - didnt need 2nd dose of calpol. I wud recommend it if ure child is that bad. We didnt have a choice as we were told they always knock little ones out. Dunno why an 8 yr old wud be that different to a 5 yr old. Good luck.
