Hi Fi Problem

    Hello

I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. I have just been given a Pioneer Hi-Fi which was being thrown out of a local community groups office. It looked in good condition and I was told it worked fine... and it does, with one exception. On CD playback there's static/distortion. It doesn't occur with Tuner/Tape/Record playback, so presuming it's not speaker related. Here are the separate components:

Pioneer: Stereo Turntable PL-Z93, FM/AM Digitial Synthesizer Tuner F-Z93L, Twin CD Cassette Deck Amplifier XD-Z53T, Stereo Graphic Equalizer, Twin Cassette Deck and Twin CD Player.

Is it likely that it's not fixable? If it is can I do this myself or should I get a specialist? Any help/advice welcomed, thanks in advance.

    Richard

Static, as in a radio crackling, or a sharp nasty digital glitch noise with the music skipping a bit?

In that case, sorry, I don't have any ideas as to the cause or a fix.

Is the sound there when it's switched to cd, even with no cd playing?

Have you tried connecting the CD player to a different line level input ? The tuner input for example ? Some CD players have a very high output >2V which in some cases can overload the inputs of some amps.

Ken, I think the CD is integrated with the amp. Only the tuner and phono are separate.

Oops, thought I'd be notified of replies to this thread so just presumed it was dead... the CD player is integrated into the Amp yes... there is only hissing when a CD is played, not when I only switch to the CD function. I rarely use the CD player because it's so bad but the other functions work perfectly. Thanks.

Sounds like a battery problem. Leave it turned on and tuned for a long while and then try again. Otherwise, try and find the battery - probaly a coin like one.

    Otherwise cannot help.
