    Hey folks.

Put simply, i. It must have between €4,000 and €6000 to spend on a quality watch.
Simply put, i want one with an easy to read face, link/bracelet strap and not vulgar looking ie; elegant and classy, one that does not shout "look at me".

    Thanks in advance.

    Caoimhin.

Or if you have to spend all of it, IWC Pilot

Anyone have a link for a good online watch sellers? Ideally covering UK and Ire?

I really love simple, linked silver watches, nothing too flashy or difficult to read because of two dozen dials on the face.

If i won the lottery it would have to be the Patek Philippe 5036/1 in white gold; http://www.patek.com/ . And i would need to win the lottery as they retail at about €60,000.00

    That's a good choice.

Big Pilot retails at about 9K I think, I tried one on a few weeks ago in Paul Sheeran's off Grafton Street and it's amazing.

If you're in Dublin best bet would be to call into Brown Thomas and check out the Omega and Panerai selection. Check out Weir and Sons and have a look at this list to see if there's anything you're interested in seeing http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68275963&postcount=4 it's not completely up to date but close enough.

Then when you've found something you like you can start looking for UK Jewellers and get a good bargain somewhere. That's how I got my Breitling here http://www.andrewmichaels.co.uk/

I'd probably go for a Panerai or an Omega myself.

They're nice watches but Im not bothered with any with jewels in them, i think they are just flashy and are'nt of any practical use.

I think you might be misunderstanding what a jewel is used for, all mechanical watches should have jewels in their movements, they are used in points where there is potential for high levels of wear. .

Ahh, ok. What i meant was watches with great big jewels for all to see.

I have to say, im leaning towards this little baby; http://www.authenticwatches.com/rolex-oyster-perpetual-115234-blksfo.html

It is certainly the style im after, clean looking, uncluttered, silver and a bracelet. The only problem is the words "Rolex", might as well write asshole on my forehead.

    Ohhh, just spotted this; http://www.authenticwatches.com/iwc-ingenieur-automatic-mission-earth-iw323604.html

    Are IWC reliable?

TBH ...I don't quite get what you're after.

On the one hand you want to spend a demi-fortune on a watch on the other hand you equate an upmarket brand name with "asshole" ...that doesn't quite go together.

You realise that you can get "clean, uncluttered, silver & bracelet" for around one hundred Euro if needs be?

    1175-3[1].jpg
A clean, respectable automatic with a good movement.

Between this and your ceiling there must be thousands of watches that meet your criteria.

Get yourself a Dornblueth.....99.1. You order it direct from Germany. Beautiful and simple watch with an in house movement and enough left over for a decent donation to the banks!

Cheers John, that is a beauty, just what im after.

Peasant, maybe its just me, but i dont want a watch that has a well known brand stamped on it. I equate Rolex with either cheap knock offs or else people who want you to know that they are wearing a expensive watch. Indeed, ive been wearing a simple Rotary for the last 10 years.

That's a nice DateJust but I would prefer a jubilee bracelet rather than an oyster. Superficially, you might see similarities between it and the Ingineur but you do realise that the DJ is 34mm and the IWC is 46m.

I have 2 IWC, A Big Pilot's and a Portugese Chronograph. Both have been in for work but in both cases it was likely my fault. They repaired without cost or quibble. You could look at a more regular sized Pilot's watch on a bracelet.

Other alternatives could be a Speedy Pro on a bracelet. Do you have any views on face colour or functions (plain, chrono etc)?

I have no idea what you just said there.

Anyway, while daydreaming about winning the lottery, money being no object, this would be the daddy; http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Patek-Philippe/Grand-Complications-Watches/5004G-m6491-watch.aspx

€200,000 + for a watch though. Id say that is more for Russian oligarchs than a lottery winning Paddy. Seriously, it is beautiful and amazing craftsmanship but how on earth do they justify a watch the same price as a semi-detached in a good area...

Beat the Russian Oligarchs at their own game ...buy what they shun and get the look for €199,000 less :D

Check out the Damasko DA36, a nice watch, clear to read, nobody will know it is an expensive piece and it's bloody difficult to damage the case - you can order them from here: http://www.timefactors.com/damasko.htm

If you want to spend a bit more, I'd be looking at an IWC Mark XV or XVI in black, or a Jaeger Le Coultre Master Control. I'd pick up nearly new ones for a big discount on the 'Bay - there are lots of pro watch dealers on German Ebay who could save you perhaps 50% of the price you would pay in an Irish shop.

Caoimhin i own a Rolex, and am very proud of it.I dont have asshole written on my forehead either.I think a better definition of asshole would be somebody who wants to spend thousands on a watch and doesnt even know why the diamonds are in it.

The diamonds are there for bling. The rubies are there to reduce friction :)

    Haha.

Seriously, if your self esteem is so low that you take offence at an off the cuff remark about a brand of watch, well maybe you need to work on it.

There is a beautiful Glashutte Original in Ernest Jones on Grafton St at 50% off right now. It's €3650, down from €7300. Worth a look.

    Caoimhín,

The mod note above was for the benefit of everyone not just 20/20.

Please familiarise yourself with the forum charter especially the "No flaming or personal attacks" section. If you can't follow the rules, the next step is a temporary ban.

    This charter?
No flaming or personal attacks. Remember the rule "Attack the post not the poster". Just because you have a collection of Breguet pocket watches from the master himself, doesn't mean another users early Casio collection is less important.

Caoimhín. If you took umbrage at the first mod note, then you're the sensitive one. You've had way too many bans from way too many forums for trolling/aggression/being a dick. Not here. Your stock has long run out of patience. You have issue with this take it to PM.

Please chill out, join in, or leave. We'd prefer to have you around, but not if it means being on tenterhooks in case you kick off. Simple.

    This is your only warning.

Chillywilly cop on. Better yet go away until you've come up with something useful to post. The forum has been going 2 years and we've had warnings very very rarely and only banned people(non members) for spamming and that was rare enough. One thread isnt worth this much trouble for the rest of the community. Thread closed.
