    Hi,

I have 03 passat and suddenly for past 2-3 days my car is having strange noise (specially while turning steering wheel on stand still position or while turning/reversing car on very low speed). When car is in motion above 20-30 kmhr no issues/noise...any body has similar experience or anyone give some thoughts on it?

I've NCT tomorrow afternoon and thinking it might not fail straighaway...

    Thank you.

You could give us a better description of the noise... :D

Anyway, one possibility (although not when stationary) is the CV joint. That makes a repetitive clunk clunk sound when the steering is at or near full lock at slow speed. Could be an NCT fail if the CV boot (a rubber gaiter that's fitted over each joint) is damaged.

thank you Esel. Yes it's really a strange noise and quite loud. Main thing i notice is steering gets hard and vibrate a lot while car is stationary but as soon as you move the car on steering/noise goes out.

Noise is more like a vibrating sound but quite intense..

    Thank you again Esel.

Possibly a problem related to power steering then?

I went to one of the garage and he told me alternator belt and tensioner belt needs to be replaced. can someone suggest reliable and honest mechanic in D15 or around?
