I'm 7 short but I've found http://www.codingforums.com/ to be very helpful for any technical questions that might crop up when designing.

Another suggestion occurred to me. I use color lovers form time to time if I want to explore similar colours to something that might appear in a site. I also believe that you can create patterns.
