Starter problem with Astra

    Hi I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about this?

    Have a problem with an Astra. Turn the ignition key and starter motor engages but car doesn't start. I checked the battery, it's working perfect. So I put a new starter motor w/solenoid in. Same problem. Checked all battery connections, all connections at the motor and solenoid, all fine. Car will start no problem if push started.

    I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas? Doing my head in.

    Starter motor works. Can you hear it turning? Does it turn the engine as well?

    Maybe it's some problem with gears between starter motor and engine.

    Yep. Motor works fine. I tested it unconnected from flywheel as well. It actuates and spins no problem.

    What do you mean by problem with gears between starter motor and engine?
