I have a 03 landcruiser 120 series and recently started to hear a strange ticking noise! When i start it in the cold the noise can be loud and when standing outside it sounds like a belt or something but i notice whenever i press the clutch the noise stops!! theres 158000 miles on her and never had the clutch changed!! The clutch does be slipping a bit when cold even though it was sorta slipping yesterday when i was pulling a 8ft cow trailer with 2 cows in it!!
Please if you know something in this situation that might help please because if i went to a garage they would say that it needs doing even if it didn't and i not fond of wasting money;)
    Thanks

I'd say after 158k you're lucky it's lasted this long! I'm sure a Landcruiser expert will be along to confirm that you're going to have to dig deep and get the clutch changed ;)

The ticking noise is probably the clutch release bearing dying of old age.

Had a feeling alright:( but thanks for your quick reply!! You wouldn't happen to know how much one would cost??
    Thanks 101Sean

Whereabouts are you? Hopefully someone will point to to a reliable mechanic in your area and an idea of the cost, I don't know 'cruisers well enough.

Cheapest clutch parts will probably be from Milners in the UK http://www.milneroffroad.com/categories.asp?cID=10923

That's what comes of going to a dealer!

What bumps up the cost on lot of them though is dual mass flywheels which often have to be replaced at the same time. Seeing as Milners don't list one, I assume you're model doesn't have one.
