Forget negotiations, Julianne's got the job.
Julianne Hough will play Sherrie, the lead role, in New Line's "Rock of Ages," director Adam Shankman told TheWrap Thursday afternoon.
"She's the lead -- she's the girl who comes to Los Angeles looking for the dream," he said. "We have Tom (Cruise) playing Stacee Jaxx, the biggest rock star in the world and we have Mary J. Blige playing Justice."
Hough recently attended a performance of the Broadway musical in Los Angeles with Shankman.
Shankman directed Hough's 2010 video "Is That So Wrong."
"We both speak the language of dance," he said. "We really see eye-to-eye on everything."
He said he "suspected this was going to happen for a long time."
Still, he made her go through a rigorous audition.
"I mean I really put her through it," he said. "And she was jaw-droppingly good."
He said casting her as the lead was "a total no-brainer."
Another thing Hough brings to the set: A great attitude, Shankman said.
"She is like the most open, sweet ray of sunshine of the world and I can't say enough good about her. And she was jaw-droppingly good in her auditions. It was a no-brainer."
He said he expects to announce more cast members in the next few weeks.
"It's going to keep on for a little while because each deal is taking so whatever long to close," he said. "There's more forthcoming."
Most of the deals are pretty much done, he said.
Among the other deals that are done: Mia Michaels, one of Shankman's fellow judges on "So You Think You Can Dance" is choreographing.
"I always forget that because of the show, we are celebrities in a weird way," he said.
"And I can confirm that the lead executive music producer is Adam Anders, from 'Glee,'" Shankman said. "So it's a nice, all-star situation right now."
The movie features hair-metal songs from the 1980s, from bands including Bon Jovi, Styx, Twisted Sister and Poison. Shankman confirmed that Cruise will sing at least one song.
Chris D'Arienzo, Michael Arndt and Alan Loeb are writing and Jennifer Gibgot, Carl Levin, Tobey Maguire, Scott Prisand and Matt Weaver are producing.
    Garrett Grant is executive producing.

Anne Hathaway and Gwyneth Paltrow were rumoured for the role of Sherrie

There's only about five seconds worth of Tom Cruise footage.

So I saw this yesterday...I didn't see any trailers beforehand I thought it was a movie about an ageing rock star... I didn't realise it was a full on musical. Like not just music from the band... but I'm going shopping for potatoes and here is a song about it musical.

Once that initial shock wore off I found it to be quite enjoyable. I generally avoid Russell Brand and anything he has anything to do with but he was tolerable in this flick, mainly I think because of his counter part Alec Baldwin was so full of win it was hard to make those scenes suck.

Cruise was good at first but the act got tired quickly. There was a whole sequence in the middle that could easily have been cut out of this 123 min flick.

Good fun movie, if a little long, and the music was great and will perform very well to a sing a long version.

I bit pissed this flopped hard in the box office as i think it was the best film so far this summer.

Its long but after getting over the campness of the 1st song and piss myself at it i was singleing a long with it thank god we where the only two in the cinema for it.

Soundtrack is something else the movie is full of win the bromance with Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand was something else as i have been a huge fan of both for years.

Tom Cruise played the part of a ageing rockstar to a tee

The nightclub why isn't there something like this here !!!! would love to go there

Just wondering does any one have a idea of a blu ray release for it yet ?

Saw the show on Broadway in NYC last February.. and thought it was great fun!

    Didn't see the movie though.

No confirmed release date for DVD / Blu-ray yet.. October seems to be most likely.

Saw both the Show and the Movie, they are very different in some parts, but found both to be very enjoyable!

Saw the show in London and also saw the film, found the show to be a lot better but I suppose that's to be expected.
