what are the reputable websites for psychologists, councillors and cbt therapists in Ireland

i know there is a sticky but most of the thread dates from 2007

what is the law regarding who can practice in these professions as of 2011

also is there a government website specifically for mental health issues

also what accredidation and qualification should be looked for when visiting a psychologist/therapist

Anybody can call themselves a counsellor or therapist, it's a sad state but I think we will be waiting a while for Stat Reg. However, if a therapist is working within a State Body or an organisation they will have to belong to a professional body. Psychology is a different matter and I let one of our psychs discuss that.

As to finding a therapist and what to look for, that is covered within the sticky above. We can't name individual therapists or psychologists here.

Here's the answer to your question.

Reputable organisations don't change very often. There is no new law but there has been a move towards Statutory Registration of Health and Social Care Professions.

The Dept of Health and Children provides some information; also the HSE

Accreditation is covered under the first link.
