    Hi,

I'm going buying a jeep at the weekend and I am getting the owner to tax it for 12months before i buy it. Its a commercial (2 seats) touareg. But I am just transferring my car insurance over to it and insuring as a jeep for personal use. As i will be using it a lot more for personal than work. And also my insurance will go up about 400 for a commercial jeep. And every I rang kept asking my occupation and i had to tell i would be using it for work which wouldnt be entirely true. Can anyone see what kind of problems I may run into? If you buy a commercial with say 11 months (commercial) tax left on it, are you seriously expected to tear up the disc and pay huge money for new private tax disc? or will i get away with waiting until that tax runs out an then tax it private

Yep. The previous owner taxed it as commercial, that's no good to you (same as if you're buying a car with taxi motor tax on it. No use for private use). Commercial tax is only good if you use the car for your business ONLY

You might get away with it in case you won't get stopped / get a fine for parking, speeding, etc. / your plate is recognised by an automatic plate recognition system inside a Garda car, etc. ;)
